Were building and operating the worlds most sophisticated battery systems to enable the uptake of more renewable power and accelerating fleet electrification, de-risking the transition to zero-emission transport at scale. Weve been consistently innovative since we were founded in 2017, achieving major industry firsts and using proprietary software and data analysis to optimise operational performance for our customers. At the end of their life, we repurpose electric vehicle batteries to provide clean power at depots, on construction sites and film sets.
Today we have 730 MW of grid scale battery storage operational and under construction and are the largest owner and operator of EV buses in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, supporting over 1,000 electric vehicles worldwide. In our first five years we have raised nearly 1.8 billion in funding and have expanded into other markets such as the US. THE OPPORTUNITY
As we expand into the North American markets, we are looking for an experienced leader in the EV charging infrastructure industry to serve as Technical Sales Manager – North America. This role in imperative to maximizing Zenobes commercial value proposition to commercial fleet customers. The Technical Sales Manager will support major strategic initiatives with the intent to maximize Zenobe’s turnkey electrification offering in the North America through the development of commercial vehicle electrification projects with customers. You will be working cross-functionally across the organization with an emphasis on technical value-engineering on electrification projects originated in North America. These duties can and will include leading and managing the early development stages of projects both from a sales and engineering perspective. Additionally you will have responsibilities for conducting surveys, estimating costs and designing layouts, ensuring all client requirements are achieved on electrification projects and proposals. It is essential that you are experienced in managing numerous stakeholders (internal and external), that you welcome collaboration and building (teams, processes, etc.), and that you are comfortable representing a growing organization at a high level as this role will have significant customer-facing exposure.
This is a unique opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial environment, building a new business in a fast-growing and rapidly-evolving sector (start-up within a start-up). At the same time, you will have the support from a company with over 250 team members that has a wide range of contracting, financing, procurement and operational experience gained to date from over 1,500 contracted e-buses worldwide. Self-starters and candidates able to thrive in a dynamic environment are desired as Zenobe intends to leverage its significant capabilities for growth in the North American markets.
A BIT ABOUT THE DAY TO DAY
- Develop and maintain pricing models to ensure consistent and accurate budgets and forecasts.
- Create and develop documents such as Scope of Works and Requests for Quotation.
- Visit current and prospective job sites to carry out surveys, develop strong relationships with the client, build confidence, and evaluate the work required.
- Create initial project designs considering the application of High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) equipment, EV charging equipment, and communication networks.
- Examine project particulars to determine project length.
- During the bidding phase, assess project design, highlighting any engineering challenges and opportunities for value engineering. Identify avenues to mitigate project risks, lower costs, or shorten project duration.
- Work closely with subcontractors to ensure a fluid working relationship and high standard of design and installation.
- Support the Business Development (BD) Team with commercial proposals and technical documentation.
- Provide technical support when presenting to clients.
- Develop business relationships and close sales deals on design and build EV infrastructure projects.
- Liaise with local utility companies to support upcoming and current projects, to include understanding local grid constraints, optimizing utility input to site, managing available funding sources, and guiding capacity increase requests.
- Liaise with OEMs to better understand products coming to market, technical specifications, and customer-value.
- Create layouts using design software such as AutoCAD and develop and manage a suite of construction detail and drawing models.
- Identify opportunities to improve best practices within the organization.
- Coordinate closely with Legal, Procurement, and Delivery teams to review subcontractor bids and properly staff project teams to ensure a successful project.

Essential competencies:
- Fluency in English to business-level is mandatory
- Must have an electrically-biased or project development background with demonstrated experience in EV and/or energy infrastructure
- Familiarity with electrical services and installation methods, including cable and equipment sizing, in the North American market
- Have a solid understanding of electrical contracting and construction process
- Proficient understanding of surveying, cost estimation, project management, and defining scopes of work
- Experience with utility management and process (service/line extension, interconnection, load letters, etc.)
- Broad understanding of fleet electrification [e.g. charge management, utilities, EVSE providers, OEMs, grant programs, etc.]
- Ability and experience in nurturing working relationship with both new and existing contractors (such as electrical, civils, etc.) to ensure projects meet high standards and maximized value
- Ability to develop and maintain business relationships with clients to ensure a positive customer experience and drive business development
- Proficient in measuring and interpreting electrical schematics, diagrams, and drawings
- Proficient working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Demonstrated ability for planning and organization, up to and including internal and external stakeholder management
- Ability to work across a number of internal stakeholders to fully realize ZEs market offering in North America (i.e. Product, Delivery, Asset Management, Commercial Analytics, PMO,etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to be pragmatic, proactive, and solution-driven
- Natural leader with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable and above-average ability to manage and communicate with customers to conduct business
- Capable of working under pressure, against deadlines, and across multiple projects
- Flexibility in terms of work locations, encompassing a combination of remote work, office work, and on-site visits to conduct surveys and estimates. Note: this position requires a moderate-to-high amount of travel and sometimes on short notice
Desirable but non-essential competencies:
- Experience in energy storage, renewables, and/or EV infrastructure
- Experience with contracting, procurement, and supplier management, a plus
- Familiarity with project management, establishing reporting and KPIs, strongly desired
- Knowledge of the local energy and fleet transport landscapes
- Working knowledge and understanding of telecommunications
- Experience in permitting, AHJs, and other areas of construction management
- Background working with SaaS products
- Previous experience using the Atlassian suite of products, MS Project, Asana, and other work management applications
- Lean / TPMS and/or Continuous Improvement
