Job Description

Xcimer Energy leverages decades of research on inertial fusion energy (IFE) combined with groundbreaking new laser architecture. Our mission is to deploy fusion power plants to meet global decarbonization goals as quickly as possible. Supported by leading investors, Xcimer is uniquely positioned to deliver limitless clean fusion power to combat climate change. Join us in powering a better world with inertial fusion!

As the Director of Pulsed Power Engineering, you will apply your skills to build state-of-the-art pulsed power department, which will train, mentor and deploy individuals to build the pulse power systems which energize megajoule-scale lasers, which in turn provide the necessary on target energy to promote Inertial Confinement Energy generation. We are a small, dynamic, and highly motivated team focused on the most plausible path to bring fusion to the grid. You will have the opportunity to bring technical leadership and broad organizational skills to complex problems, owning the department standards which will be used to design, build, and test pulse power systems. We seek engineers, physicists, and technicians to apply their technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact the future of energy.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a team of Pulsed Power Engineers, Physicists, and other subject-matter experts.
  • Develop, fund and staff the Technology Road Map for the Pulse Power department.
  • Attend all formal design reviews to verify adherence to Engineering standards, and provide direction where necessary corrective actions are identified.
  • Mentor engineers in their growth and development.
  • Develop, adopt, and implement process tools, metrics, and culture for rapid integrated system development.
  • Develop and approve design specifications, performance specifications, fabrication specifications, acceptance test procedures, and maintenance plans for the pulsed power system.
  • Establish best practices for CAD, PDM, and other engineering processes and tools.
  • Collaborate with the SVP of Engineering and executive team to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure the Pulsed Power Engineering team is equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to succeed.

  • Excellent leadership skills, with experience managing engineering and scientific subject-matter experts.
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical, gas, and vacuum systems.
  • Proficiency in systems thinking and building systems models at physical, functional, and programmatic levels.
  • Experience managing complex projects, including working knowledge of MS Project or equivalent, and proficiency in project budgeting.
