ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide local, and out of territory, Commissioning and Service technical support and implementation, as well as startup of full power plant EPC projects. This could include, but is not limited to adherence to design implementation, technical support, tuning, testing, coordination with BOP commissioning, programming, performance testing, service technical support and contractual adherence.
  • Learn and understand the installation and application of all the various types of equipment and systems that the Energy Solutions Engineering, Procurement and Construction team provides, designs, installs, and maintains both individually and as part of larger projects including but not limited to Industrial and Petroleum Engines, Electric Power Generators, Automatic Transfer Switches and Switchgear, Caterpillar Microgrid Products, Energy Storage Systems, Solar Power (PV, Inverters, System Controllers, Racking and Tracking Systems, etc.), Turbines, Distributed Control Systems, and other Power Systems Equipment such as Transformers, Emissions Reduction Systems, Battery Systems, etc.

EPC Project Commissioning And Service Support

  • Review the contractual and design specifications to gain a better understanding of the all requirements and commitments, while at the same time, creating a specification review to identify discrepancies, exceptions, clarifications, and/or special notes.
  • Work closely with the designated Energy Solutions Engineering, Procurement and Construction team on individual projects as directed by the Service Contracts and Equipment Manager.
  • Generate necessary power plant testing, commissioning and service reports and tests (as required by the design specifications and contractual requirements) utilizing Energy Solutions resources. To include: general arrangement drawings (GA Drawings), structural drawings and equipment footprints, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P & ID), electrical schematics (AC, DC, and Interconnection Diagrams), functional design specifications, distributed control system and instrumentation List.
  • Assist in building Operation and Maintenance (O & M) Manuals including as built information to be sent to the customer upon project completion utilizing the Energy Solutions resources.
  • Provide ongoing Service Technical Support as needed in order to maintain power plant service contractual adherence as determined by the Service Contracts and Equipment Manager.

Commissioning And Service Reporting

  • Keep track of all information regarding Commissioning and Service testing, tuning, etc. using the required software.
  • Report the progress of each project and its current phase to the Energy Solutions Engineering, Procurement and Construction Team and the Service Contracts and Equipment Manager.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy, efficiency and history of each Energy Solutions project and service contract for continued future improvement.

Additional Functions

  • Work on other projects throughout Energy Solutions as designated by Service Contracts and Equipment Manager.
  • Coordinate advertising, promotion and marketing activities with various entities in the Company and with Caterpillar to ensure that a consistent, appropriate message is delivered to the territory.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • College Degree in Engineering, from an accredited 4yr College or University or a combination of education and multiple relative years of power generation commissioning and service experience.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in power generation, specifically service and/or commissioning.
  • Advanced intellectual and application knowledge of power generation systems (engine, generator and electrical systems), preferably Caterpillar and other major power industry brands, technical support and service support.
  • Successful understanding of how engines and generators are used.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of power generation and BOP equipment.
  • H Advanced computer skills including an excellent understanding and professional experience with the use of computer software programs, such as, Microsoft, AutoCAD, CAT ET, etc.
  • Successful completion and testing of large scale and complex power generation projects.
  • Ability to apply advanced knowledge to exercise discretion and judgement in decision making.
  • Ability to work effectively with others, both inside and outside the company.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Basic public speaking skills.
  • Ability to organize time and priorities.
  • Self-motivated.

Preferred

  • Additional certificates or endorsements from applicable training related to commissioning and service technician in power generation.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Material and equipment directly used: Light service and commissioning tools, devices, instruments and the like, product literature, reference material, and Company files, and the PC, telephone, video and teleconferencing software, and other business tools will be used on a daily basis.
  • Sitting four (4) to eight (8) hours per day.
  • Walking and/or standing for one (1) to ten (10) hours per day.
  • Walking up and down stairs.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Use of hands for fine manipulation.
  • Mount and dismount various types of equipment using ladders and hand and footholds.
  • Able to see, hear and feel machine condition indicators is necessary.
  • Able and willing to meet customer requirements for onsite visits.
  • Able to work long days.
  • Frequent travel to Customer facilities, Energy Solutions locations, customer offices and job sites requiring overnight stays.
  • Operate a company vehicle requiring a valid driver’s license (driving record must meet company insurance standards and is reviewed annually).
