Role:
As a Senior Substation Engineer, you will be part of the Power Networks team providing engineering support for the design of substation facilities for voltages up to and including 765 kV. This includes new substations and switchyards, as well as modifications, additions, and upgrades to existing facilities.Our Power Networks team delivers engineering solutions across sectors such as Transmission, Substations, Battery storage, Renewables – Solar, offshore wind, onshore wind, Green Hydrogen, Carbon Capture etc. You will be working with large power utilities, IPPs, renewable energy developers and more.
Responsibilities:
Independently perform tasks that typically include:
- Substation physical design including yard layouts, plans, sections and details, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, interior and exterior raceways, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, and associated bills of material for new switchyards and substations, additions and modifications.
- Preparation of specifications and provide procurement support.
- Perform auxiliary electrical power system studies including load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, protection and coordination, ampacity, and battery sizing studies.
- Perform substation grounding calculations and studies, lightning protection and insulation coordination, lighting, bus calculations, transformer and bus sizing calculations, fault calculations, and AC and DC auxiliary system sizing calculations.
- Perform proposal preparation, proposal estimates, and provide input to scope documents and client presentations.
- Work in a team-oriented environment with ability to work independently or as part of a group when and as required.
- Responsible for the quality assurance of the documents to the applicable Worley and client standards
- Commitment to Customer service and ability to work independently on more varied and complex tasks when required.
- Supervise/coordinate other engineers of equal and lesser experience to successfully deliver a project. Provides technical direction to subordinate team members.
- Perform independent audits and reviews of technical work.
- Interface with other departmental staff, project management, and with Customers.
What you will bring
Technical and Industry Experience:
- 6+ years of experience in substation engineering
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI.
- Successful completion of FE or EIT preferred.
- Highly effective technical and practical engineering skills and ability to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to Worley and its Customers.
- A sound knowledge of the fundamental requirements of the electrical engineering, and the basic requirements of other engineering fields.
- A sound knowledge of applicable local and international standards and statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite.
- Experience in estimating project costs and writing proposal content.
- Ideal candidate should have strong interpersonal and written communication skills that permit working efficiently alongside other engineers, project managers and designers in a team setting.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Required:
- 4 or 5 year Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering
Preferred:
- Professional Engineer (PE) in the United States

You can be based out of any of our offices located across the US. Alternately, we also provide the flexibility to work completely remote or hybrid.
