About the Role: Under the guidance of the Vice President, the Director of Engineering and Maintenance is responsible for leading both the engineering and maintenance department. Responsible for directing a team of engineers focus on design, development, testing and continuous improvements of systems and equipment, as well directing the maintenance of systems and equipment for the Maintenance Department. Collaborate with departmental managers to create budgets and develop business plans. The ideal candidate for this position possesses proven leadership skills, as well as a strong ability to problem solve and make sound decisions that encourage corporate growth. The Director of engineering and Maintenance will assist other departments to achieve established production goals consistent with ISO 9001, Quality, and Safety standards.
Your Responsibilities:
- Direct, support and enforce ISO 9001 standards as they apply to the Maintenance and Engineering departments.
- Improve the business processes for each department through analysis and collaboration.
- Get involved in long-term business planning at the managerial and executive level.
- Collaborate with department management to develop financial plans.
- Analyze the performance of support functions for departments and make recommendations for improvement.
- Act as responsible individual for the approval of significant corporate expense checks.
- Direct and assist with establishing and accomplishing maintenance and engineering KPI’s to measure performance of the department.
- Development metrics to track equipment uptime and utilization to ensure functionality and reliability of facility systems and associated equipment.
- Partner with operation departments with identifying problems, conducting Root Cause Analysis, analyzing requirements, and challenging current conditions to reach optimal resolutions.
- Direct improvements of facility systems and associated equipment by studying performance results; identifying, recommending, and implementing changes, expansions, and additions.
- Partners with leadership to prioritize repairs, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment.
- Directs the scheduling of repairs, maintenance, and installations to ensure continuous production of operations.
- Partners with other production departments on the scheduling of down time for repairs and maintenance of equipment and machines.
- Strategic Thought partner with operations leaders to establish/reinforce department standards while integrating the assigned departments information to strategic plans and operational reviews that may impact; production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.
- Assists with maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal codes and regulations.
- Direct the support of maintenance function and reliability of facility systems and associated equipment.
- Plan the operation of all maintenance and operations activities by conferring with the directors and supervisors for the Maintenance and Engineering department, including projecting budget, equipment, material and personnel requirements.
- Review cost estimates for building alterations and repair work of facilities.
- Assist in preparing specifications for painting, roofing, paving, fencing, other maintenance and repair projects, and building alterations or upgrades of major systems.
- Plan, organize and supervise facility and preventative maintenance equipment programs, including implementation and maintenance of a systematized data management, storage and retrieval system.
- Supervise and review the preparation and compilation of the Facilities, and Maintenance and Operations, and Engineering department budgets.
- Review and supervise expenditures and purchases.
- Evaluate and improve departmental performance.
- Assist and train managers and supervisors in supervising personnel, staff training and employee issues.
- Evaluate and counsel assigned employees and recommend personnel actions.
- Formulate, interpret and administer departmental internal policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.
- 10+ years’ experience in a leadership role required.
- 5+ years’ experience in the manufacturing sector required.
- Lean Manufacturing Experience / Continuous improvement experience preferred.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 elements and understanding of their applicability to the Maintenance and Engineering Department.
- Strong Analytical, Problem Solving, Delegation, Conflict Resolution, Motivational and Team Building skills.
- Excellent Interpersonal, Communication, Time Management and Self-Motivation skills.
- Ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Effective decision-making skills.
- Excellent attention to detail—specifically as it pertains to troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Experience with developing budgets and writing business plans.
This is a position that involves being actively present out in the plant, tending to industrial machinery and equipment when needed and offering direction to engineering and maintenance staff.
Work Environment: Responsibilities are carried out in both indoor settings and in the plant, an unregulated environment that experiences extreme temperatures and high levels of noise, including but not limited to other uncontrollable factors.
