The Gig: The Manager – Technical Operations will assist the Senior Director – Technical Operations with all technical aspects of the Company’s vessels.

This gig is based at VVHQ – our swanky Virgin Voyages Head Office in Plantation, FL where we follow a hybrid work environment. We can’t wait to ‘sea’ you in person during our Collaboration Days, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, while you enjoy Mondays and Fridays’ as remote days.

What You Will Up To:

  • Support the ships technically and assist in troubleshooting and partnering with other Departments
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining the repair and maintenance budget
  • Oversees planned maintenance on board ships
  • Responsible for the change management and modifications execution.
  • Support AMOS PM planning and execution and hold Chief Engineer and deputy Captain accountable
  • Ensures that the vessels statutory certifications are up to date and that all the necessary surveys are carried out in a timely manner
  • Immediately informs leadership with any safety, security and environmental issues
  • Explore, support and execute all company Energy Optimization and Fuel savings initiatives and innovations
  • Actively work on decarbonization and ESG projects
  • Carries out frequent shipboard visits
  • Oversees shipboard Technical Operations to ensure Company procedures are implemented and effectively executed, including the ERM
  • Ensures ships are maintained to Company Standards
  • Ensures that equipment failures are identified and reported, cause determined where possible, and that appropriate corrective actions are taken to remedy defects and prevent reoccurrence
  • Support the M&T wet and dry-dock work scope, budget, planning & execution, coordinates works scope with project lead (Director-Design)
  • With Senior Director Technical Operations, manages Ship CAPEX, MTO Repair & Maintenance budgets, ensuring safety and pollution prevention requirements are appropriately prioritized
  • Acts as Ship Superintendent.
  • Support newbuilding GFR process
  • Assist with AIMS process and functionality
  • Part of the hiring and interview process of shipboard Technical Officers and crew
  • Other duties as assigned

SMS responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the department’s Safety Management System (QMS) and implementation of new policies and procedures. To make certain that ships and shore-based personnel practices are in place compliant with the SMS.
  • Monitor any industry rules and regulation updates and ensure implementation, if applicable, on the ships.
  • During Refit periods, ensures safe working conditions and provides VV ship and shore crew with all required safety training and equipment / PPE and requires contractors to use PPE at all times and follow pre-work safety briefing
  • Assist DPA in reviewing and updating the SMS for areas responsible.
  • Perform regular audits of the ship’s technical department on policies and procedures.

SuperPowers Required:

  • 5 years experience in Technical Operations in the Cruise Industry.
  • Bachelor Degree in Marine Engineering
  • Good knowledge of the Statutory Regulations applying to Cruise Vessels
  • Shipboard experience is preferred
  • Experience with AMOS
  • Ability to work in fast paced, complex and evolving situations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English language
  • Strong cross- functional collaboration skills
  • Strongly motivated and ability to manage diverse work groups to effective solutions
  • Ability to work during weekends, holidays and night as required
