Entergy’s Power Generation group operates a fleet of more than 30 owned, leased, or operated natural gas, coal, oil, hydro, solar and petroleum coke plants, with a total engineering capacity exceeding 20,000 megawatts. Entergy continues to build or acquire megawatts from new hydrogen capable natural gas units, solar, wind and other technologies to complement its existing megawatts of nuclear, natural gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric, and solar facilities.
*This position may be filled as a Maintenance Operator (MO), MO 1, 2, 3, 4, Journeyman Maintenance Operator (JMO), or MO Tech based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.*
Job Qualifications
Under general and/or directive supervision, with a working latitude for planning or laying out of working details, must be able to perform simple mechanical work involved in the inspection, repair, installation, test, adjustment and calibration of meters and instruments, and of automatic combustion control equipment and regulating devices in generating stations, must be able to perform simple electrical work involved in the inspection, repair or installation of electrical equipment in generating stations and electrical substations and related equipment in shop or in place, must be able to perform simple mechanical work involved in the inspection, repair and installation of mechanical equipment in generating stations, must be able to assume responsibility for operation of the equipment included in a central controlled turbo-generator-boiler system with its associated fuel handling facilities, auxiliaries and functions during a specific shift. Depending upon the employee’s second primary skill he/she would be required to perform complex duties of either mechanical, electrical or instrumentation and control skills and perform simple duties for balance of skills as required and be qualified to do the following and related work as assigned
Place in service, or remove for service and operate in a safe manner, turbogenerator and boiler systems and related auxiliary equipment such as fuel facilities, valves, traps, regulators, desuperheaters, heaters, cooling towers, heat exchangers and related piping systems containing water, steam, air, and other fluids or gases, station service electric circuits, oil circuit breakers, air circuit breaker, disconnecting switches, transformers, storage batteries, motor generator sets, indicating and recording instruments, etc., install and maintain simple or complex mechanical measuring devices and control equipment such as pressure gauges, thermometers, thermocouples, instrument piping, and simple regulating and control devices install and maintain simple electric circuits in conduit or open wiring, lighting fixtures, motors and other electrical auxiliaries, install and maintain simple or complex mechanical equipment, such as small piping layouts, valves, fuel pumps, small centrifugal pumps, steam traps, heat exchange apparatus, building fixtures, tanks, air removal equipment, ejectors, etc.
Check functioning of governors and controls. Perform simple or complex operations in connection with general test work on boilers, turbines, pumps, condensers, heat exchange equipment, cooling towers, piping, draft equipment, instruments and controls and other related mechanical equipment clean and inspect motors including check of clearances and insulation resistance, and change of oil as required, perform simple or complex operations in connection with general maintenance work on boilers, turbines, pumps, condensers, heat exchange equipment, cooling towers, piping, draft equipment, buildings and other related mechanical equipment
Check bearing temperatures and equipment for proper operation, perform simple operations requiring some precision with hand, bench and power tools, test electrical circuits and equipment for insulation resistance, perform simple operations requiring some precision, with machine tools such as drill presses, pipe and bolt threading machines, band saws, punch or shears, etc.
Check and adjust running clearances on main turbine, analyze flue gas samples and perform general tests on instruments and controls, renew lamps, fuses, sockets, etc., perform simple tasks such as packing valves and pumps, replace gauge glasses, cut gaskets, reseat valves, form simple tools, fabricate metal parts, etc.
Change over fuels, diagnose and correct minor electric trouble of secondary equipment involving continuity of service, diagnose and correct general mechanical trouble of equipment involving continuity of service
Maintain proper combustion, assist in laboratory work as directed, make routine test and inspections of storage batteries, inspect and maintain firefighting apparatus
Operate the control room under routine and emergency conditions with general supervision
Prepare records and reports
Perform necessary housekeeping

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
MO: No experience required
JMO – MO Tech: Must have worked at least 3 years and be qualified as maintenance operator or have had equivalent experience in power plant operation and maintenance
Be familiar with elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices instruments, controls, and regulating devices as used in generating plants, the elementary principles of electricity, magnetism and electric circuits
Gain proficiency in the use of and nomenclature of tools and equipment ordinarily used
Have ability to understand and perform operations of average complex and variety where standard methods of procedure are available
Have working knowledge of the principle of operation, function and construction of steam boilers, turbo-generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators, their controls and auxiliary equipment
Have a complete mental picture and be able to sketch from memory a flow diagram of main piping systems
Have working knowledge of the operation and function of rotating electrical equipment, switches, transformers, instruments, control and accessory equipment, etc.
Know the Company’s safety rules and be able to administer all approved methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid
Know the location of, and be able to operate all fire-fighting equipment
Physical Qualifications
MO: Age – 18 minimum
JMO – MO Tech: Age 21 – 22 minimum
Must have full use of mental and physical faculties
Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require
Personal Qualifications
Be particularly alert in observing hazards and avoiding accidents
Be willing to attend and take part in safety meetings
Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job
Be willing to work irregular or extra hours as required
