Job Description

Our Company

UrbanFootprint is the world’s first Resilience Intelligence Platform. We provide critical intelligence to the institutions rebuilding the world’s infrastructure. Where does the energy sector invest in electrification, decarbonization, and asset hardening in the face of climate threats? Where do cities and businesses invest to catch up with e-commerce, last-mile delivery, and new mobility? Where do governments deploy relief and new infrastructure to combat record hunger, homelessness, and hazard vulnerability? UrbanFootprint provides detailed and actionable answers to these questions and more.

UrbanFootprint organizes, normalizes, and aligns thousands of urban, climate, and community metrics across the continental U.S. The platform delivers targeted insights via dynamic data streams and collaborative web mapping applications. We enable our customers to answer complex questions in minutes rather than weeks, months, or years. Our customers include some of the largest energy utilities, major financial institutions, critical government agencies, top urban planning firms, and the Big 4 management consultants.

Our founders, Joe DiStefano (CEO) and Peter Calthorpe are urban planning pioneers who have spent decades providing critical urban intelligence to cities and enterprises across the globe. We’re growing in a market with a TAM of >$22B, and we’re widely recognized as urban innovators – we’ve been selected as one of Time Magazine’s Best Inventions, named one of Fast Company’s World’s Most Innovative Companies, and have been on the GovTech 100 list since 2021. Our investors include Valo Ventures, Social Capital, 2150, Noa, and strategic financial sector institutions CitiVentures and Assured Guaranty.

The role

We’re seeking a Finance and Accounting Manager to partner with our CEO and company to drive decision-making and run critical areas of business operations. You’ll have a high degree of autonomy, partner with the CEO and senior leaders, and be exposed to all aspects of the business. For the right candidate, this will propel them into a VP Finance / Head of Finance position.

As a team of one, in partnership with the CEO, management, and third parties, you’ll run accounting, financial reporting, payroll, and compliance. You’ll also meaningfully contribute to FP&A, board and investor relations, and customer and vendor contracting.

We’re seeking someone with a strong analytical mindset and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Your background likely includes progressive development at other software companies, work in early-stage start-ups, and experience in various accounting and finance functions.

As Finance and Accounting Manager, you will perform tasks like:

Accounting:

  • Perform full cycle accounting and month-end close, including transaction entry, reconciliations, and posting journal entries.
  • Perform AP and AR recurring processes and support the company with efficient financial operations.
  • Provide knowledge and expertise in applying ASC 606 and other technical accounting relevant to a SaaS company.

Finance:

  • Financial reporting for internal and external parties.
  • Support the CEO and others with forecasting, budgeting, and scenario modeling.
  • Support the development and implementation of financial KPIs.
  • Collaborate with the CEO on commission plans, annual bonuses, compensation adjustments, and other compensation matters.
  • Collaborate with our CEO and legal counsel on customer and vendor contracting.

Payroll and Compliance:

  • Process payroll through our PEO.
  • Collaborate with managers and IT on onboarding and offboarding employees.
  • With the support of our PEO and tax CPAs, address non-income tax compliance and tax filings.

Your strengths and background:

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • Demonstrated technical accounting knowledge that applies to a SaaS company.
  • Experience operating with a high degree of autonomy, ideally in a VC-backed start-up.
  • Strong interest or experience in FP&A and financial modeling.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a strong desire to learn and grow.

Target salary: $125,000 – $170,000, plus bonus eligibility and equity.

(Compensation is flexible based on experience; all candidates at various levels will be considered.)
