Job Summary:

The Program Coordinator for the Office of Inclusion Education (OIE) within Student Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is primarily responsible for developing support services for student populations who are impacted by global violence and displacement due to war. The Program Coordinator develops holistic support programs that emphasize trauma informed care principles to support students’ academic success and cocurricular engagement, and works to facilitate connection between, and strengthen students’ access to, mental health and well-being support on-campus for students impacted and displaced by war. Additionally, the Program Coordinator consults with university services to provide educational opportunities to increase awareness of the specific characteristics and needs of students from war-torn backgrounds.

Responsibilities:

Advises multicultural student organizations and student leadership and affiliates, develops and executes programming, and serves on institutional committees to support multicultural students and their allies.

  • 30% Provides consultation, resources, and referrals concerning multicultural affairs to various audiences
  • 20% Assists organizations in developing and implementing sustainable leadership practices; and navigating established policies, procedures, and resource management strategies
  • 20% Schedules logistics and secures resources for academic, cultural and social programs and events that contribute to the recruitment and retention of multicultural students and the enrichment of the institutional community
  • 10% Serves as liaison to various committees regarding initiatives and best practices
  • 10% Develops and implements individualized cocurricular engagement plans that assist students in navigating institutional structures
  • 10% Provides crisis management, case management and follow-up plan as required, including coordinating with university services to support students in crisis

Tasks:

  • Guides first-generation student, immigrants, or students from refugee communities through academic structures including but not limited to class or semester withdrawal options, faculty communication, and academic support plans.
  • Develop and implement community-based programming that engage students’ families, campus partners, staff and faculty in effectively supporting first-generation student, immigrants, or students from refugee communities.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of incoming student initiatives, welcome, and campus connection initiatives for first-generation, immigrants, or from refugee communities.
  • Develop and implement program initiatives that provide students with the skills to navigate predominantly traditional academic classrooms and institutional structures.
  • Attend regular meetings, student consultations, and assist with the development of crisis mitigation strategies.
  • Works collaboratively with student communities to develop culturally informed programming and resources that support academic success and cocurricular engagement.
  • Develops and implements campus-wide educational workshops through campus partnership

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in educational student support services and/or working within a university or educational context
  • Experience in case management and/or individualized support within an educational or community engagement context
  • Experience planning programs and events

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Crisis management, support, and intervention experience
  • Experience working individuals from immigrant backgrounds
  • Counseling or psychology background
  • Training and development experience

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The expected starting salary range for this position is $55,000 up to $60,000 for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications. The Office of Inclusion Education was formed in August 2020 to elevate and prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion for all students at UW-Madison.
