Job Description

Job Summary:

The UW Population Health Institute seeks an outreach specialist to support maternal health initiatives at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS). This position is based in the Family Health Section, Bureau of Community Health Promotion, Division of Public Health, DHS. This position is under the supervision of the Maternal and Infant Health Unit Supervisor.

This position will support the Maternal Mortality Review (MMR) program and the Maternal Health Innovation (MHI) program by operationalizing strategic and communications plans, developing and implementing a process for prioritizing MMR Team (MMRT) recommendations, evaluating the reach and implementation of prioritized recommendations, and coordinating outreach to and collaborating with community and other statewide partners to increase utilization of MMRT and MHI recommendations.

This position will also assist with coordinating the work of Wisconsin’s Maternal Mortality Review Impact Team, which is tasked with amplifying MMRT and MHI recommendations and highlighting action steps. This includes developing a recruitment plan and team charter, as well as developing regular content briefs and supporting documents.

Key activities will consist of:

  • developing and implementing communications and dissemination plans
  • developing and implementing a process for prioritizing MMRT recommendations
  • evaluating the reach and implementation of prioritized recommendations (assessing successes, challenges, and impacts)
  • building relationships with statewide partners
  • facilitating bidirectional engagements with partners (i.e., listening sessions, forums, co-learning events, etc.)
  • coordinating and maintaining the work of the MMR Impact Team
  • supporting work of MMR and MHI programs by elevating MMRT and Maternal Health Task Force findings and data with a prevention lens

Responsibilities:

Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.

  • 25% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 20% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 15% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 30% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 10% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor’s Degree in public health, social work, sociology or related field.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Minimum one year experience managing or coordinating programs or projects, preferably related to public health.
  • At least one year of experience working in public health or a related field, preferably related to maternal/child health OR at least one year of work experience partnering with community partners.

Preferred:

  • Experience with strategic communications, writing, or content development for multiple audiences.
  • Experience and comfort with organizing and facilitating meetings.

Experience with program evaluation and measuring and tracking program outcomes including managing or developing an evaluation plan.

  • Experience developing collaborative and positive relationships with diverse internal and external partners.
  • Experience providing consultation and technical assistance to a variety of partners in a sensitive and context-specific manner.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 80% – 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The minimum salary for the position is $65,000 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship.
