Position Summary
The Development Manager, Girls and Young Women is the girls and young women of color fundraising lead for Tides. The Development Manager is a member of the Philanthropy team and the broader Partner Services Department at Tides. This position is budget dependent connected to the financial performance of the Advancing Girls pooled fund. The Philanthropy team provides integrated services for individual, family, foundation, and social change leader partners to support grantmaking, impact investing, advocacy, donor collaboration, and strategic advisory solutions. In addition to providing support to our grantmaking and social change leader partners, the team designs and manages several important pooled grantmaking initiatives that align with Tides’ equity impact goal and our vision, mission, and approach. Day to day, the Development Manager will serve as the fundraising lead for the Advancing Girls Fund (AG), one of several key grantmaking initiatives designed to bring donors together to invest meaningfully and collectively in adolescent girls and young women of color so that they have the resources to dream, learn, play, and lead.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy Development & Execution
- Design and execute effective multi-year fundraising strategy with an annual target of approximately $20-25 million in alignment with Tides VMA and impact goal.
- Support the development of fund development priorities and frameworks for fundraising for a pooled-fund structure.
- Research and identify new prospects and funding opportunities for the Advancing Girls Fund and its’ grantees.
- Create and execute solicitation strategies.
- Execute strategic fund development plans that expand and diversify the Advancing Girls Fund’s donor base and pipeline by creating effective opportunities to cultivate and steward consistent, long-term philanthropic relationships.
- Work collaboratively across Tides to ensure Advancing Girls financial, programmatic, and donor obligations are met or exceeded.
- Represent Tides and the Advancing Girls Fund in the community, build relationships, and grow awareness of its focus, strategy, and grantees.
- Keep abreast of the women and girls funding landscape to identify emerging needs, gaps, and opportunities.
Donor Education & Relationship Management
- Maintain an active schedule of donor visits to cultivate, and close major and planned gifts.
- Provide the management required to maintain and increase the Advancing Girls Fund’s annual renewable base of support through multiple outreach strategies.
- Support and partner with Tides Foundation segment leads, and CSI team to engage and retain interested philanthropic partners.
- Help plan and staff Advancing Girls related events and collaborate with Tides segment leads to identify joint event opportunities as well as donor education/engagement opportunities.
- Convene donor briefings and raise financial resources for the AG in partnership with Marketing and Communications and Program staff.
Resource Development
- Build effective fundraising tools that support the fundraising efforts of current grantees that are aligned with trust-based philanthropy practices.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Communications to develop resources for AG including webpages, announcements, and donor reports.
- Support Tides’ effort in creating org-wide templates and standards to support collaborative/pooled funds in measuring grantee impact, developing evaluation frameworks, feedback structures and tracking systems with an eye to donor education.
- Support the timely briefs in partnership with the Marketing & Communications and Programs team to showcase Tides’ knowledge on important and/or emerging issues in philanthropy to benefit key stakeholders, including current partners.
Partner Relationship Management
- Deliver high quality service to an assigned portfolio of philanthropic partners, as part of a cross-functional team that may include Finance, Grants, Legal, Business Process and other teams to support partners’ objectives.
- Serve as primary point of contact with philanthropic partners, coordinating and optimizing interactions among partners, consultants, grantees, and other stakeholders.
In partnership with identified advisors, create connections and foster collaboration between Tides women and girls focused partners that are aligned with Tides VMA and Impact model.

- Demonstrated ability to design and implement fundraising strategies from concept phase to completion.
- Successful fund development experience, including donors, foundations, and corporations.

- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to work with and manipulate data from multiple sources, assimilate and present information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to use systems and other tools (Salesforce & NetSuite) to gather data, insights to measure outcomes.
Education And Work Experience
- BA/BS or higher degree, or equivalent experience may be substituted for a college degree.
- 7 – 10 years of demonstrated fundraising experience working in the philanthropy and/or nonprofit sector.
- 2-4 years’ experience in women and girls grantmaking and / or advocacy
Compensation
Tides is committed to providing a competitive compensation package. We value pay equity and account for factors such as your location within the U.S., your skills and your relevant experience, and we will not ask for your salary history. Your starting salary will fall into one of three ranges, depending on your location:
- National market: $82,900 – $103,600 (Most U.S. states)
- Moderate market: $90,400 – $113,000 (Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and D.C. metro areas)
- High market: $99,400 – $124,200 (New York City and San Francisco metro areas)
