Electrical Engineer

Job Overview:

The Senior Electrical Engineer will play a key role in overseeing the internal electrical engineering process for Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects within a prominent Engineer, Procure, and Construct (EPC) firm. Responsibilities include leading electrical design, optimizing costs, and guiding construction and installation methods. Additionally, the role involves designing DC, MVAC, and LVAC auxiliary collection systems, as well as mentoring junior team members.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

• Develop preliminary and detailed designs for PV and BESS projects based on engineering principles.
• Enhance electrical engineering calculation tools for determining cable, conduit, OCPD, and equipment ratings as per project specifications.
• Collaborate with the Estimating team to optimize design concepts and Bill of Materials (BOM) for schedule of values (SOV).
• Guide CAD designers in creating well-designed site layouts and single-line diagrams.
• Maintain and update equipment databases essential for PV and BESS designs.
• Create construction details and BOMs for various work packages across assigned projects.
• Review utility interconnection documents (Facility studies, Interconnection Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements) to ensure project compliance.
• Assist the PV Performance group with design inputs to develop accurate production models for RFP and contracted projects.
• Apply innovative engineering principles to optimize costs for utility-scale PV and BESS projects, creating design matrices for future reference.
• Support the Procurement team and Project Engineers by providing design rationale, equipment ratings, and product compatibility insights.
• Attend training sessions on new products, installation methods, and safety protocols.
• Develop expertise in modules, inverters, batteries, DC-DC converters, BMS/EMS technologies, MV switchgear, transformers, and other components critical to PV and BESS project design.
• Review and provide feedback on Engineer of Record (EOR) drawings and studies to ensure alignment with preliminary designs and cost controls.
• Mentor other Electrical Engineers, Design Leads, Project Engineers, and CAD Designers.

Education & Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Solar PV Design or the Solar construction industry.
• 8+ years of overall experience in Electrical Engineering or related work, with a focus on Solar PV or Renewable Energy Technology.
• Professional experience with Utility PV Contract negotiation in an EPC setting is preferred.
• Professional Engineering License is advantageous.
