The AES Clean Energy Tax group is seeking a Senior Analyst to assist with indirect tax reporting. This position would report to the Manager of State and Local Tax and help bridge the gap between the Clean Energy Tax Planning and Tax Reporting teams. The Senior Analyst would interact directly with colleagues in AES Clean Energy project development, construction, legal, asset management, finance, and accounting teams to strategically capture value for renewable energy projects while assuring tax compliance within the state and local jurisdictions with whom AES Clean Energy partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support annual real and personal property tax compliance process for operating facilities and construction in progress:
  • Secure data necessary for return preparation
  • Analyze, validate, and format data to necessary specifications
  • Interface with internal and external preparation teams
  • Interface with internal asset management, construction management, and treasury teams to assure timely payment of tax due
  • Maintain the schedule of locations and jurisdictions, including assessment dates, filing dates, appeal deadlines, and other relevant information necessary to timely reporting
  • Model property tax expenditures for early development and M&A projects
  • Assist with state tax controversy activities, including notices, audits, appeals and review of assessments.
  • Reconcile and analyze fixed assets and tax accruals for accounting purposes
  • Assist in the identification and management of credits, incentives, or fee in lieu opportunities
  • Partner with non-tax counterparts to implement tax planning strategies, process improvements and other strategically important initiatives
  • Support state tax budget and forecasting processes
  • Perform technical research and assist in documenting state and local tax positions for regulatory and legislative changes
  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field; CMI, CPA, or J.D. preferred
    • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience with a national tax advisory firm or corporate tax department
    • Knowledge of property tax valuation and compliance
    • Understanding of state tax technical issues affecting partnerships (or a desire to learn)
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel / Access and SAP
    • Exceptional communication skills; comfort articulating complex tax issues to management and non-tax audiences with minimal preparation
    • Exceptional self and project management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage evolving priorities in a dynamic work environment
    • A driven curiosity to learn and apply rapidly evolving and complex tax technical concepts with a business first mindset
    • Interest to further develop, through supporting M&A and renewable investment transactions in close partnership with business and tax peers
