What To Expect
The TPT Engineering team is responsible for the design, documentation, integration, and training of custom service tooling hardware and procedures to assist in the rapid development and maintenance of Telsa’s energy storage solutions.
This skilled and motivated individual will keep pushing this evolving energy industry forward by being the in-house battery and high voltage expert influencing procedure development, tool/product design, and training new field serviceman.
The ideal candidate has a good mix of electrical and process engineering skills and possesses a strong set of hands-on skills.
What You’ll Do
Start-to-finish process ownership of new battery products: Specification, architecture, design of process, validation, analysis, publication, and upkeep
A lead curriculum and content driver for training programs of new field serviceman to understand risks and mitigations around battery technologies at Tesla
Become a key POC and responder for unique cases in the field evolving around our existing fleet of energy products
Standardize decision trees on what to do with our battery SOC after fault cases over time in agreement with HAZMAT and Environmental health/safety ordinances
Consultant with reliability, battery abuse, compliance, and systems tests teams on human and operator safety
Support existing software and hardware tools; Integrating them with battery response management processes and utilizing them to define management of emergency events
Ability to travel to commissioning sites, containment sites, and Giga factories 30-50% of the time
What You’ll Bring
5+ years experience in electronic/mechanical system troubleshooting and root cause analysis
5+ years experience with BESS, Battery Energy Storage systems.
5+ years experience in implementing preventative technical measures through engineering fundamentals.
5+ years experience calculating and working with arc flash and shock hazard mitigations.
2+ years experience dealing with HAZMAT and EHS teams.
Experience with Battery Testing, including battery cycling and electrical/thermal performance specially around Li-Ion based chemistries.
Ability to read and comprehend electrical schematics. (Wiring and PCBA)
Specific experience dealing with above 1200Vdc architectures preferred
Experience around NEC preferred
Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Technology, or equivalent experience

Expected Compensation
$84,000 – $300,000/annual salary, depending on level + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
