The Carbon Accounting and Measurement Specialist drives high-quality carbon measurement across TechnoServes work. As part of our corporate strategy, TechnoServe has set ambitious targets to reduce, sequester or avoid 30 million metric tons of emissions by 2030. Achieving this target means scaling our long-standing support to corporate partners to catalyze equitable, profitable, and regenerative supply chains. Aligning the interests of these companies with those of local people working to escape poverty creates self-sustaining relationships that deliver lasting value both for the companies and for the enterprising women and men they work with.

The Regenerative Business team works closely with TechnoServe regional and country teams, as well as leaders from our Strategic Initiatives, Entrepreneurship, High Margin Agriculture, Coffee, and Food Processing global practices. The Carbon Accounting and Measurement Specialist plays an essential role inTechnoServes journey towards sustainable impact at scale through the rollout of TechnoServes Regenerative Business strategy, underpinned by a rigorous measurement framework that aligns with international standards and those of our corporate partners.

The Carbon Accounting and Measurement Specialist will develop TechnoServes carbon measurement methodologies, build internal measurement capacity and protocols, and support project teams in quantifying the emissions reductions attributable to the uptake of regenerative practices through our programming.

Job Summary

Internal Emissions Inventory

  • Validate and regularly update TechnoServes internal GHG baseline and measurement methodology to ensure alignment with latest Greenhouse Gas Protocol and other relevant industry standards
  • Update measurement templates and methodologies (including backend science and emissions factors), and develop comprehensive guidance for data entry by country teams
  • Conduct training webinars for country office teams and provide ongoing support for data collection
  • Oversee and audit country office measurement for annual activity data
  • Conduct annual emissions calculations for all country offices and HQ
  • Consolidate annual emissions results
  • Provide recommendations for reductions pathways towards TechnoServes net zero targets

Strategic Initiatives: New Business & Implementation

  • Conduct carbon modeling and research for internal studies in the regenerative agriculture and circular economy spaces
  • Develop and maintain an emissions modeling tool to estimate projects emissions reductions potential for new project design, aligned with IPCC and Cool Farm Tool guidelines
  • Collaborate with Program Development and Strategic Initiatives teams to design regenerative programs, including carbon modeling and target-setting
  • Liaise with corporate donors and implementing partners to align measurement methodologies and standards
  • Develop and conduct carbon measurement training for TechnoServe project teams

Monitoring & Evaluation

  • In collaboration with the Regenerative Business and Impact teams, develop and update carbon measurement methodologies, protocols and guidance for TechnoServes Corporate Measurement process
  • Oversee ongoing measurement support to projects, including reporting to donors and annual TechnoServe corporate measurement
  • Coordinate the relationship with Cool Farm Alliance to influence the development of improved emissions calculation methodologies for TechnoServe projects and clients
  • Liaise with Cool Farm Alliance and TechnoServe Impact and IT teams to establish API data flows
  • Develop standardized data collection templates for updated Cool Farm Modules (annuals, perennials, and crop-specific as needed for individual projects)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 5+ years of experience or Master’s degree and 3+ years of experience in carbon accounting, corporate environmental and social responsibility, regenerative agriculture, natural resource management, or related field
  • Experience on climate and nature-based solutions, preferably in international development, consulting or private sector
  • Demonstrated expertise of international and corporate frameworks for carbon accounting, emissions calculations, and net zero target initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with senior and diverse stakeholders, including corporate donors
  • Experience with carbon measurement calculators and other industry standard tools (Cool Farm Tool, FAO EX-ACT)
  • Proven analytical skills
  • Expert command of MS Excel, strong command of MS Powerpoint and Word
  • Experience and proven ability to work independent in a mostly remote workplace, across time zones and in multicultural contexts

Required Languages: English Fluency required (with a preference for proficiency or fluency in French, Portuguese or Spanish)
