Title: Director of Origination

Company Type: IPP (Independent Power Producer)

Company focus: Renewable Energy, Thermal Energy

Compensation: $200k-$240k base + generous cash bonus

Location: Remote with travel (Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado preferred)

PLEASE NOTE: You must have extensive experience leading origination and offtake contracts for renewable energy or thermal energy projects.

Our client is a successful IPP in the energy generation space. The business boasts healthy financial margins, a growing engineering team, and developments across the US.

Job Description

The Director, Origination, is responsible for marketing the company’s development services and projects. This role involves leading commercial efforts for various multi-GW portfolios and assisting the development team in coordinating and prioritizing project activities.

Successful candidates will work on a variety of technologies critical to the global energy transition, including solar, battery storage, wind, carbon capture, hydrogen, and gas-fired generation. The Director will maintain regular customer contacts and negotiate development services and project offtake contracts for the company.

Responsibilities

  • Secure, negotiate, and finalize PPAs, tolling agreements, and build transfer deals for ongoing projects.
  • Build and sustain relationships with key utility and commercial & industrial customers.
  • Collaborate with the entire development team to develop and implement new business strategies and growth initiatives.
  • Develop project proposals and marketing materials, including responses to RFPs.
  • Serve as project manager during contract negotiations, coordinating with legal, engineering, and finance teams to ensure successful agreements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in energy project origination.
  • Prior experience in project development preferred. Experience building, leading, and developing highly efficient development teams a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented, analytical mindset and questioning attitude
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%
