Job Description

Swaniti Global Initiative is seeking a short-term consultant with a deep understanding of the renewable energy and local government spaces in Appalachia to help develop a network of stakeholders that will advance energy transition and economic development efforts throughout the region.

Organizational Background:

Swaniti Global Initiative is an ecosystem-enabler working to build sustainable and equitable communities in a climate-constrained world. Our approach is based around conducting on-ground assessments to help ready communities for the shift towards renewable energy and to ‘connect the dots’ between key stakeholders through convenings and discussions on energy transition opportunities and challenges.

We have worked across South and East Asia for more than a decade and a significant part of our focus has now moved to the US where we are working with energy communities to look at creating economic and social value for communities in energy transition. In addition to research and the development of data-driven tools to facilitate investment and energy transition, we are also building a network of investors, companies, and private sector professionals who can work with communities in Appalachia to accelerate efforts towards this end and ensure sustainable impact.

Position Description:

Were looking for a short-term consultant to join our team as we continue to expand our presence and work in the US. Over the course of 5 months, we will look to this individual to

  • Improve our tools and research in ensuring that we are able to create resourceful programs.
  • Help design and launch workshops with appropriate organizations in Appalachia
  • Facilitating one-on-one meetings with relevant personnel who can provide additional insights into our work.
  • Help us organize one flagship roundtable discussion with key stakeholders.
  • Actively contribute to ideas on how to strengthen our work.

Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding and experience of the renewable energy and/or economic development sectors generally, and in Appalachia particularly (ideally across the region but open to experience in one or more states)
  • Well-established professional networks with relevant stakeholders from government, private sector, and/or civil society
  • Ability to establish and grow relationships with key leaders in the sector/region
  • Experience facilitating high-level discussions with leaders from different sectors and experience in facilitating/managing in-person events
  • Ability to work on shifting priorities and in a growing organization where responsibilities may occasionally be reoriented based on needs or other developments.

Additional Details:

  • Hours: We would expect the consultant to work 8 days (64 hours)/month (2 days/week on average), but exact hours can be flexible.
  • Compensation: $2,400.00 per month
  • All work will be performed remotely. Must have the right to work in the United States.

Please contact Daniel Flynn ([email protected]) with any questions or to discuss further. Email CV and cover letter to apply. Applications will be reviewed as submitted and interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
