ROLE SUMMARY

This position is a combination of client management, project management & senior engineering responsibilities. This position reports to the Engineering Director, or another management personnel that the President of the Company may designate. This position is expected to travel up to 15%.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Client Management Responsibilities
    • Deliver on customer acquisition targets
    • Build relationships with key employees among customers
    • Create plans to address clients business needs
    • Schedule regular meetings with customers to ensure satisfaction
    • Act as point of contact for complaints and escalate issues as appropriate
    • Ensure both the company and clients adhere to contract terms
    • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. sales, engineers, senior management) to address customers needs
    • Successfully mitigate customer escalations
  • Program engineering Responsibilities
    • Oversee projects through design, approval, coordination, construction and assumption phases.
    • Oversee critical project schedule, milestone and deliverables information
    • Ensure that critical project work has been verified at key milestones by facilitating design review mechanisms
    • Lead and attend design and project meetings as required.
    • Manage, monitor & track engineering budgets (internal and external), schedules and deliveries
    • Job site inspections as required for interpretation of construction drawings, and for general compliance with specs.
    • Facilitate project related problem solving, resource allocation, and issue resolution by engaging pertinent parties and expertise as required
    • Maintain the integrity of the project management tool and other group software, ensuring licenses and updates are kept current and utilized effectively
  • Senior Engineering Responsibilities
    • Work as part of the project teams in the execution of large solar and energy storage design-build projects.
    • Design electrical single line diagram and installation details using AutoCAD.
    • Familiar with design and operation of power systems ranging from 480V to 35kV distribution and transmission systems.
    • Experience in protection control, relay coordination, arc flash analysis and other LV, MV, HV system designs.
    • Collect technical data and field information of electrical power distribution systems to document and analyze industrial and manufacturing facilities energy requirements and Coordination Studies
    • Studies include protective device coordination, short circuit analysis, arc flash, load flows, ground evaluation, harmonic analysis, and power quality analysis.
    • Generate comprehensive reports and analysis which include system reliability considerations, plant grounding and surge protection evaluation, utility bill analysis, specific recommendations for improvement of overall safety and reliability of the power system plus detailed plans for action item improvements as well as plans for future growth, consolidation of services, equipment relocation, etc.
    • Knowledge, interpretation, and application of Canadian Electrical Code, National Electrical Code and applicable energy codes.
    • Knowledge of one-line drawings, elementary and wiring diagrams, equipment specifications (including transformers, MCC, switchgear, substation equipment); power plans, conduit plans, cable schedules, system studies and protective relay settings.
    • Ability to interpret client specifications, and Preparation of engineering reports
    • Production of detailed drawing and specifications (AutoCAD experience is a must);
    • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and ask for assistance when required
    • Must be able to attend commercial and industrial sites and observe all applicable safety regulations
    • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
    • Graduate of University program in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 15 years experience in power generation & distribution environment preferred
  • Certifications/Licenses
    • Professional engineering designation preferred
  • Other Competencies
    • Excellent working knowledge of AutoCAD, ETAP or equivalent and drafting software
    • Familiarity of Project Management Tools
    • Knowledge of power distribution system fundamentals, Engineering Standards and distribution system specs such as NEC, UL, IEEE, OBC, NFPA, etc.
    • Familiarity with health and safety legislation
    • Organized in time management, priority setting, strategic, insightful, creative and adaptable.
    • High level of motivation; self-starter; drive for results, self-assured, confident, self-motivated, and goal-oriented
    • Ability to work with all levels of management and across multiple and varied functional teams to executive levels
    • Basic working knowledge of business operations, project planning and budgeting
    • PLS-CADD is the most advanced industry standard software for overhead line modelling
