Job Description

Overview

Are you excited about playing a key role in shaping the clean energy future? We’re on a mission to develop breakthrough energy storage technologies that will support a reliable, renewable, and cost-effective electric grid for the United States. By advancing a new generation of iron-air batteries, we’re laying the foundation for a greener, more sustainable future.

Role Overview

Our Mechanical Engineering team is focused on designing the core elements—battery cells, modules, and system enclosures—of our pioneering multi-day energy storage system. We aim to create designs that optimize performance, quality, reliability, and cost for scalable, high-volume manufacturing.

We are currently seeking an experienced Engineer to lead our Analysis & Mechanical Architecture team based in California. This team is responsible for defining mechanical architectures, performing structural and thermal analysis, and validating models to ensure our designs meet the highest performance standards. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and systems engineers, to develop cohesive architectures and designs.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and expand a top-tier team of mechanical architects, thermal engineers, and structural engineers.
  • Drive mechanical architecture development, along with the optimization of structural, fluid, and thermal analysis for the energy storage system.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams—battery, electrical, chemical, and systems engineering—to design and optimize system architectures for cost, performance, and reliability.
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to the engineering team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing technical environment.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Deep experience in designing and analyzing mechanical systems, assemblies, and components for high-volume production in a hardware product development environment.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Expertise in either thermal analysis (CFD/FEA) or structural analysis (static/dynamic).
  • Strong mechanical design skills, with experience across multiple commercialized products.
  • Hands-on experience in model validation and correlation.
  • Knowledge of product definition, engineering requirements, and FMEA principles.
  • Experience with batteries, energy storage, or high-power products is a plus.
  • Excellent technical communication skills, particularly with cross-functional teams and external partners.
