Position Overview

They are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Origination to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will lead our origination efforts to secure power purchase agreements (PPAs), identify strategic market opportunities, and drive revenue growth for our utility-scale solar projects. This role offers the opportunity to significantly impact the future of clean energy by helping us expand our footprint and deliver sustainable power to communities and businesses across the nation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Origination Efforts: Identify and originate new utility-scale solar opportunities, securing long-term PPAs, energy sales contracts, and other revenue agreements with utilities, corporate offtakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Market Strategy Development: Work closely with the executive team to develop and implement go-to-market strategies that align with the company’s goals and objectives in the evolving energy landscape.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with utilities, corporate energy buyers, municipalities, cooperatives, and other key stakeholders.
  • Negotiation & Contracting: Lead negotiations and secure PPAs and other commercial agreements for utility-scale solar projects, ensuring favorable terms for the company while meeting the needs of the offtakers.
  • Market Research & Analysis: Monitor regulatory developments, market trends, and policy changes to identify new business opportunities and inform strategic decisions.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with development, finance, legal, and engineering teams to ensure seamless project execution and successful commercialization of projects.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the origination team, fostering a culture of high performance and professional growth.
  • Reporting & Performance Metrics: Track and report on the status of origination efforts, including project pipeline, contract negotiations, and market penetration, providing regular updates to senior leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Energy Management, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in energy origination, with a focus on utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  • Proven track record in securing PPAs and energy sales agreements with utilities, corporate offtakers, and/or large-scale energy buyers.
  • Strong understanding of power markets, renewable energy regulations, and the evolving landscape of the energy transition.
  • Excellent negotiation and deal-structuring skills with demonstrated experience in closing complex commercial agreements.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership and team management experience with a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop talent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
