VACANCY INFORMATION:

This position will be filled by promotion of a current Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Office of the Secretary/Enforcement permanent employee.

The position will be domiciled in Avoyelles Parish

This WLF Enforcement Sergeant is located in Region 3-A

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state’s renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology.

This position is located in the Enforcement Division within the Office of the Secretary. The incumbent of this position will assist in addressing the challenges of recruiting and retaining a diverse and effective workforce. This includes, but not limited to, identifying and attracting talent from a diverse pool, ensuring every candidate is treated fairly, verifying that the application and screening process is bias-free, working closely with human resources, participate in establishing policies that enhance the agency’s hiring process and indirectly supervising personnel responsible for other talent acquisition functions.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Four years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Two years of this experience must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Senior Agent or higher rank in state service.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment.

Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.

An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by the State and Federal laws is granted.

NOTE:

This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To provide the enforcement patrol component in support of major programs for fish, game, wildlife, ecosystem and boating safety regulations for the protection and sustainability of wildlife/fisheries resources and public safety; and, to serve as a parish coordinator for enforcement operational/patrol within an assigned district or statewide specialized enforcement unit.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Advanced.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant or higher-level wildlife enforcement personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise project or functional supervision over wildlife enforcement agents of lower rank.

LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Law Enforcement Division.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Corporal by the presence of serving as a parish enforcement coordinator.

Differs from Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant by the absence of supervisory responsibilities.

Patrols public/private land and waters. Investigates/conducts law enforcement activities designed to impact natural resource conservation, protection and management objectives, and to provide public safety services.

Coordinates and works investigations in an undercover or covert capacity and is required to infiltrate illegal activities involving fish and wildlife.

Reviews and investigates of all hunting accidents and boating crashes in assigned parish or unit to determine cause and to assist in determining possible criminal charges.

Investigate/conducts law enforcement activities designed to impact natural resource conservation, protection and management objectives, and to provide public safety services.

Coordinates enforcement activities within an assigned parish or work unit with lower level wildlife enforcement agents.

Oversees enforcement activities on Wildlife Management Areas located in assigned parish.

Monitors/submits reports related to equipment upkeep and condition.

Serves as a temporary district supervisor in absence of the Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant.
