Solar Site Team Leader Lamesa Solar Facility Lamesa, TX

We are currently seeking a Team Leader for our Lamesa Solar Facility in Lamesa, TX. The facility consists of approximately 410,000 Trina Solar photovoltaic solar modules, mounted on single axis ATI tracker systems. The facility uses 100 Power Kaco inverters to generate approximately 100-megawatts of solar energy. The solar facility is built on 887 acres in Dawson County, Texas.

The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and support for SPC Solar Operations Technicians (non-exempt employees) and for operating and maintaining the SPC Solar Fleet in a safe, compliant, reliable, and efficient manner. This position is accountable for safety, environmental and regulatory compliance; team development and technical direction; performance management; managing resources and work priorities; assist in developing O&M and Capital budgets and management; development and management of solar maintenance strategy and PMs; Coordination of contracts and contractors; and other related goals as required by the business.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain familiarity with all maintenance activities within the facilities and keep abreast of ongoing issues
  • Perform periodic walk-downs and visual inspections of each site in coordination with Solar Technicians, as well as provide back-up & support for some tasks.
  • Assist in managing the overall compliance of the solar sites including but not limited to safety, environmental, financial, and contract/contractor management.
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure safe and compliant LOTO program for solar.
  • Assist in the development and manage Capital and O&M budgets to meet year-end projections. Write/approve purchase requisitions, invoices, etc.
  • Provide project management leadership and support as required.
  • Work with SPC M&D ROC to monitor operational activities and alarms for solar sites.
  • Administer workflow process in Maximo. Review CRs daily and ensure work orders are prioritized, planned, executed, and closed out.
  • Provide Asset Management of all solar sites including performing and maintaining a maintenance strategy for each solar facility with optimized PMs.
  • Work with vendors and contractors in the proper maintenance and operation of the solar facilities.
  • Develop and implement an inventory management process for solar sites. Ongoing daily oversite of inventory will be required.
  • Work with other departments (New Generation, Renewables, etc.) as necessary on all new site and project development activities.
  • Experience with contractor maintenance and management.
  • Assist plant technicians with equipment troubleshooting and/or maintenance as required by emergency or availability.
  • Manage above responsibilities at multiple sites and with multiple site crews in the specified region
  • Continued oversite and collaboration with the sites budget analyst for all materials received and work performed on site.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • BS or Associates Electrical/Electronics degree a plus.
  • Supervisory experience including performance management preferred.
  • Three years of work experience in generating plant maintenance or operations required.
  • Experience with asset management (System Ownership) within a generating plant or equivalent work experience. Project management experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of MAXIMO preferred.
  • Be knowledgeable of site PPA(s) to maximize profit through production and maintenance planning.
  • Computer skills as required to understand and communicate with digital-based devices.
  • Advanced knowledge of AC and DC electrical circuits.
  • Understanding of maintenance strategy, budgeting, cost reporting, and reliability reporting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all working and management levels.
  • Competency with current Windows operating system and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be available for extended work hours including nights and weekends.
  • Solar plant experience (or similar process) with emphasis on plant controls, communication networks and SCADA is preferred
  • Represent Southern Power in the Renewable Operations Review Board (ORB) meetings (and other applicable ORBs). Leading ORB action teams may be required.
  • Working knowledge of switchyards and related equipment required.
  • Travel may be often and across multiple sites.

  • Trips to assist other solar sites in the fleet may be required at times. These trips will include overnight stays in most all cases.
  • Monitoring and managing weekend site activities for the site technicians is required. This may be remote or onsite as required.
  • Periodic overnight trips to SPC leadership and Renewable Fleet meetings will be required.
  • Periodic trips to serve as co-Team Leader backup will be required.
  • Periodic daily duties may increase when acting as co-Team Leader backup.
