Vice President of Energy Management for Data Centers

Reports to: Chief Technology Officer

Our client, a leading innovator in energy solutions, is seeking an experienced Vice President of Energy Management to drive the development and execution of energy management strategies tailored specifically for data centers. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of energy systems, including renewable integration, storage, and efficiency optimization, with a focus on the unique energy demands of large-scale data centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Energy Strategy Development: Lead the creation and implementation of energy management strategies to optimize energy usage, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness for data center operations.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a cross-functional team responsible for energy systems, including engineering, operations, and sustainability experts. Foster innovation and ensure alignment with the company’s long-term energy goals.
  • Data Center Energy Systems: Oversee the design, integration, and management of energy systems within data centers, including power distribution, cooling systems, renewable energy integration, and energy storage solutions.
  • Efficiency Optimization: Continuously analyze and improve energy efficiency, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to reduce energy consumption and minimize carbon footprint while maintaining high performance and reliability of the data center infrastructure.
  • Renewable Energy Integration: Lead efforts to incorporate renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and energy storage systems to ensure sustainable and resilient energy supply for data center operations.
  • Technology Roadmap: Develop a comprehensive technology roadmap to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of energy management innovation, particularly in addressing the high energy demands of data centers.
  • Risk Management & Compliance: Ensure all energy systems are designed and operated in compliance with relevant regulatory standards and that risks related to energy availability, cost volatility, and sustainability are proactively managed.
  • Vendor and Partner Relationships: Cultivate and manage relationships with energy suppliers, technology partners, and other stakeholders to ensure a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable energy supply.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Implement and oversee systems to track energy performance metrics, providing detailed reports and insights to senior leadership on energy usage, cost savings, and sustainability achievements.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in energy management, with at least 5 years focused on data centers or large-scale energy-intensive operations.
  • Proven track record in optimizing energy efficiency and integrating renewable energy solutions in mission-critical environments.
  • Expertise in power systems, energy storage, cooling technologies, and renewable energy integration specific to data centers.
  • Strong leadership experience with a history of managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of industry standards, sustainability practices, and compliance requirements for energy management in data centers.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
