Job Description

SOLV Energy is an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and solar services provider for utility solar, high voltage substation and energy storage markets across North America. Job Description Summary: SOLV Energy is seeking a skilled and motivated Simulation and Software Test Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in developing advanced computer simulations of bulk electric systems and renewable energy power plants to test, tune, and optimize power plant control software. Your expertise will drive the design, enhancement, and demonstrated performance of our power plant control software.

Job Description:

  • This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain computer programs and algorithms for creating accurate simulations focused on testing, tuning, and optimizing control software for renewable energy power plants.
  • Collaborate closely with control systems engineers, renewable energy experts, and researchers to define simulation requirements that align with control software objectives for various renewable technologies.
  • Integrate real-world data and parameters to enhance the fidelity of simulations, ensuring they effectively mirror control scenarios for battery energy storage systems (BESS), photovoltaic (PV) solar, wind as well as possible on-site loads.
  • Thoroughly test and validate simulation software to guarantee its accuracy and reliability across diverse control strategies and scenarios.
  • Develop a comprehensive set of tests that will utilize the simulation software to verify that the power plant controller software satisfactorily performs all its design functions under all expected operating conditions and transitions between them.
  • Automate testing and report generation to ensure rapid, thorough, and repeatable testing as well as consistent documentation in support of plant control development as well as software factory acceptance testing.
  • Engage in team discussions, brainstorming sessions, and technical reviews to foster innovation and enhance simulation and testing capabilities.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy systems, control systems, and components within electrical power plants, including battery energy storage systems (BESS) and photovoltaic (PV) solar.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as IEC 61131-3, C++, C#, Python.
  • Knowledge of simulation techniques, modeling methodologies, and numerical analysis.
  • Experience using RTDS, ETAP real-time or other hardware in the loop simulators a plus.
  • Skilled in software development best practices, version control, and collaborative development tools.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to translate intricate technical requirements into practical software solutions.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams and present simulation outcomes to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-driven attitude with the capability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, committed to producing high-quality simulation software and testing routines.

If you are enthusiastic about advancing control software for renewable energy power plants through development of simulation software and automated test routines, we encourage you to apply and join our team.
