When you join Caterpillar, you’re joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don’t just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Job Description

Come be a part of the energy transition at Solar Turbines Incorporated; the leading designer and manufacturer of Industrial Gas Turbines in the 1 to 39 MW size range. We have exciting opportunities for upcoming graduates to join our world-class team of turbomachinery professionals as we work together to develop new product capability aimed at reducing emissions, improving efficiency, and burning low-to-zero carbon fuels.

The Technology and New Product Introduction (NPI) internship program within Turbomachinery Products (TMP) is designed to provide students with challenging assignments within gas turbine product design and development activities. Our organization is built from diverse engineering functions including Mechanical Design, Combustion, Aerodynamics, Performance, Heat Transfer, Additive Manufacturing and Development Test. Under the guidance of a professional mentor, interns are provided with meaningful work experience, a central project assignment to complete, and the opportunity to apply classroom education to real industry situations. By joining us as an intern, you will contribute to our company’s sustainability and carbon reduction efforts and you will be an important contributor of our innovative solutions.

Responsibilities may span numerous analytical simulations (FEA, CFD, amongst others), engine test performance, data analysis, engine assembly support, research of advanced technologies and the design and development of hardware for our gas turbine products. This job role may also include manufacturing support, development engine or rig testing, instrumentation, performance analysis and the development of design tools. The design and development efforts are in support of high-level product needs of durability, reliability, performance, cost, and manufacturability.

This internship position is similar to the posted intern position in Gas Turbine Products Engineering (GTPE) organization. It is encouraged to apply to both positions for consideration within the broader TMP internship process, especially if you are seeking a wide range of technical options.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently in the process of obtaining a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Classified by your school as either a Sophomore, Junior, Senior planning to attend graduate school, or currently attending graduate school.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and technical judgment.
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
  • Exhibit exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous related internship or co-op experience.

Compensation:
