Overview
SAFE seeks an energetic, creative, and motivated communications professional to lead external communications on a range of energy policy issues. The position will report directly to the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs and collaborate on developing and executing the organization’s strategic communication plan, supporting earned media, social media, message development, and content dissemination. In addition to leading short and long-term communications projects, the Director will manage staff and external contractors and collaborate across SAFEs initiatives to ensure consistency and efficacy in communications efforts.

Responsibilities:
- Strategic Communication Planning: Assist in the development and execution of the organization’s overall communications strategy. Help define key messages, target audiences, and communication channels.
- Project Management: Establish and manage SOPs around core communications tasks including report releases, webinars, digital campaigns, social media, and earned media promotion.
- Media Relations: Draft and disseminate press releases and statements strategically targeted to key reporters based on interest areas. Regularly maintain media lists based on reporter interest area, outlets, etc. Manage incoming media requests and leverage current events to elevate SAFEs subject matter experts.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Track and report out media coverage and social engagement. Analyze the effectiveness of communication strategies and provide regular reports to senior leadership.
- Content Development: Oversee the creation and editing of content across all SAFEs initiatives on various platforms, including but not limited to: Manage SAFEs website with up-to-date and relevant information. Own and grow SAFEs Energy Security Matters newsletter.
- Social and Digital Media: Grow SAFEs social following with a focus on LinkedIn. Draft, collaborate with Center leads, and push out commentary on relevant news items, engage relevant stakeholders, and promote events, statements, and other pertinent activities.
- Event Promotion and Logistics: Coordinate with relevant leadership and third-party vendors to manage production, promotion, and execution of webinars and in-person events. Develop and execute pre- and post-event promotion plans, including media outreach, social promotion, and stakeholder engagement. Work with SAFEs Director of Event Operations and third-party vendors to create and execute a marketing plan for SAFEs marquee event, the Annual SAFE Summit.
- Internal Communications: Assist in ensuring clear and consistent communication across SAFEs Centers, supporting cross-departmental initiatives, organizational updates, and strategic planning.
- Brand Management: Work to maintain and strengthen the organization’s brand and voice across all communications and materials such as one pagers and other marketing collateral. Ensure brand consistency across all platforms.
- Team Leadership and Development: Anticipate needs of SVP for Public Affairs and support when necessary. Provide guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback to junior team members and interns. Collaborate with external agencies, vendors, and contractors as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5-10 years of experience in fast-paced communications environment including a multi-client firm, Congressional or Senate committee, or large trade association.
- Demonstrated success and creative approach in range of communication methods.
- Exceptional writing abilities.
- Attention to detail, ability to advance multiple projects and prioritize on deadlines.
- Fluency with multiple digital platforms and ability to learn new systems.
- Ability to work independently with a willingness to troubleshoot problems and find creative solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in stakeholder management.
Salary range: $100,000-$150,000 per year commensurate with experience, with an exceptional benefits package. Location: The individual will be based in Washington, D.C. and will work from SAFEs conveniently-located office.
