ABOUT SDSN

The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) has been operating since 2012 under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General. SDSN mobilizes global scientific and technological expertise to promote practical solutions for sustainable development, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Climate Agreement. We aim to accelerate joint learning and promote integrated approaches that address the interconnected economic, social, and environmental challenges confronting the world.

SDSN works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society. It is directed by Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs and operates through offices in New York, Paris, and Kuala Lumpur.


ABOUT THE COUNCIL OF ENGINEERS FOR THE ENERGY TRANSITION (CEET)

The Council on Engineers on the Energy Transition (CEET) constitutes a global, high-level body of engineers and energy systems experts to contribute to the UN Secretary Generals goal to build a coalition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, and to the UN generally on engineering pathways to achieve comprehensive decarbonization by mid-century. The work of the CEET is undertaken by independent and impartial, as well as recognized global experts serving in their personal capacity and responding to requests for information by the UN System.

The CEET is led and co-chaired by the Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the President of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) to engage important partners from the United Nations (UN), academia, and business realms to support the decarbonization of energy systems in line with the Paris Agreement goals.


POSITION SUMMARY

SDSN is seeking a Project Manager to manage the work of CEET and join the Climate and Energy team. The Manager will report to the Head of SDSNs Climate and Energy Program. The Council is actively working to address some of the key questions around technology feasibility, scalability, and regional contextualization to support a global clean energy transition. The position will serve as a key manager working at the intersection of the Council members, the United Nations, and key partners across the UN system. This Project Manager will have the opportunity to grow fundamental project management skills and tools; build a professional network of mentors and contacts; and be actively involved with discussions exploring some of the most pressing questions around climate change and the global energy transition facing our generation.

The Council is seeking a motivated, personable, and experience Manager who is willing to help steward both the administrative and substantive work of the Council. The Manager will also support key program development and organization around the UNFCCC annual COPs and will have the opportunity to attend COP29 alongside the Council.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate planning and communications for internal and external communications related to the core activities of the Council
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings with CEET Secretariat, CEET Chairs, CEET Speakers and the CEET Steering Committee and report on project advances
  • Serve as SDSN liaison to the United Nationals Secretary-Generals office in coordinate with the Head of the Climate & Energy Program
  • Manager project workplan and budget on an ongoing basis
  • Provide technical inputs in different aspects of the project, including publications and strategy
  • Support the drafting, editing, design and layout of deliverables in coordination with the rest of the team
  • Coordinate outreach activities to relevant UN agencies to interconnect the Council in key UN agencies and initiatives related to the Energ transition
  • Coordinating all Council meetings, agenda, meeting notes, and corresponding with project teams as materials are drafted
  • Managing and organizing report drafts, gaining legal consent for use of images and figures, copyediting, and supporting the design layout of the reports/briefings
  • Maintain CEET website, including writing and editing content, and coordinating external communications (email campaigns, newsletters, etc.) with the SDSN Communications team
  • Research and writing support for Councils substantive deliverables
  • Support and execute event-and publication-specific outreach strategies
  • Maintaining the Airtable database of Council member information and survey data
  • Assist in identifying and applying to funding opportunities to support the longevity of the Council
  • Supporting annual recruitment efforts to bring in new members as needed


QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in Project Management, Sustainability, or Engineering (climate and/or energy specification preferred)
  • Professional fluency in English required (written and spoken)
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in sustainability, energy, and climate policy
  • Experience with InDesign and Google Suite strongly preferred
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong project management skills and ability to work in fast-paced environment
  • Excel at working independently in high-pressure environment alongside high-caliber experts and UN leadership
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and oral communications skills required
  • Proficiency with WordPress and Mailchimp preferred
  • Experience communicating with and working alongside high-level experts


IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Location: This position will be based in New York City, NY

Travel: Requires domestic and/or international travel, subject to SDSNs travel policy.

Contract Length: This appointment is valid for a period of one year, subject to renewal upon review of work performance and funding constraints

Salary Range: $67,323 – $100,985

Reports to: Head of Climate & Energy Program

Work authorization: SDSN does not sponsor visas, and therefore applicants must have proper authorization to work in the United States. SDSN is required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to secure verification of eligibility to work in the United States.
