Senior Design & Engineering Manager Job Description:
As a key member of the Projects Team, the Senior Design & Engineering Manager will lead the successful design, engineering, and permitting of projects ranging from homeowner ADUs to ground-up infill developments in California and beyond. This role involves building, training, and managing a team capable of high volume of design document creation and building permit acquisition. Responsibilities include:
- Build and manage a domestic/overseas, internal/consultant/outsourced hybrid team of design, engineering and permitting professionals.
- Define project-specific due diligence requirements.
- Develop/procure digital tools for efficient design and permitting in a wide variety of jurisdictions.
- Create and maintain drawing templates and design standards.
- Oversee construction administration
- Implement continuous improvement processes.
- Design cost-effective, prefabrication-friendly construction details.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s in Architecture or Engineering, or 4+ years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of building codes, permitting, project costs, and contracts.
- Strong design process understanding and team management experience.
- Excellent communication and multitasking skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Revit (preferred) or AutoCAD.
- Experience with BIM 360, GIS, and Procore.
- Familiarity with IBC and related codes.
- Knowledge of architectural or civil engineering principles.
- Experience designing and permitting solar and/or battery storage systems.
