BESS Technician

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technician in Houston, TX to support the installation, maintenance, and operation of large-scale battery storage systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical systems, experience with battery storage technologies, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Install, commission, troubleshoot, and maintain Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and related equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on BESS, including inspecting electrical systems, performing diagnostics, and calibrating equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues with BESS, ensuring proper functionality and minimizing downtime.
• Monitor system performance and ensure optimal operation of the storage units.
• Assist with integration of BESS into larger energy systems, including solar or wind power facilities.
• Respond to emergency maintenance calls and perform necessary repairs on short notice.
• Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and industry best practices.
• Document all work performed, including maintenance records, troubleshooting logs, and system performance reports.
• Collaborate with engineers and project managers to optimize system performance and support project goals.
• Stay up to date on the latest BESS technologies and industry trends.

Qualifications:

• Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience working with electrical systems, preferably in renewable energy or battery storage.
• Experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or similar technologies is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of electrical wiring, schematics, and troubleshooting techniques.
• Familiarity with energy management systems, inverters, and power electronics.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and in physically demanding environments.
• Willingness to travel to various job sites as required.
• Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with energy storage software systems.
• Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as NEC, IEEE, and OSHA.
• OSHA 10/30, NFPA70e, and First Aid/AED/CPR as preferred certifications.
