RWE Clean Energy, LLC Functional area: Business Development

Remuneration: Exempt

The Director, Commercial and Channel Sales will consist of managing a national force of sales executives targeting clients in the Municipal, Cooperating, and G&T market sectors. The prospective target clients are currently seeking or may soon be seeking to place distributed generation and battery storage solutions to achieve sustainability, generation, and carbon reduction goals and increase their facilities’ energy resiliency. Most of the time will be spent working with the sales executives as they are originating/qualifying solar and battery storage opportunities while developing customer relationships that will lead to contracts that drive new business and support corporate goals. You will be responsible for the origination, screening, and closing of distributed energy resource opportunities in the Municipal, Cooperative, and Generation and Transmission Utility market sectors. The position should also be able to leverage their existing relationships within the sectors to create new opportunities for business. The position will work with various teams across the RWE organization (business development, proposal generation, and project development and engineering) to achieve annual goals. This position will report to the Senior Director of Sales and Marketing, Distributed Clean Energy, and will contribute directly to the achievement of RWE Clean Energy Solutions’ financial and strategic goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Senior Director and sales executives to identify, screen, and capture new solar and battery storage opportunities with Municipal and Cooperative Utilities
  • Conduct market analysis to uncover solar and battery storage opportunities in various markets including, but not limited to Municipal and Cooperative Utility markets
  • Conduct research into state renewable energy rules, regulations, and incentives/rebates to help the team pursue and capture solar and BESS opportunities
  • Negotiate and closing solar and battery storage deals with utilities, and regulatory bodies
  • Participate in and helping lead renewable energy generation and storage proposal development
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams in support of proposals, presentations, and other renewable energy sales pursuits
  • Represent our company and brand to potential customers
  • Engage municipal and cooperative utility leadership to uncover and satisfy their generation, storage, energy resiliency, and sustainability needs
  • Achieve sales goals and revenue objectives
  • Work with web-based Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software to upload, track, and grow the sales pipeline, progressing these opportunities to contract/task order award
  • Travel to customer engagements, as needed, and attending key renewable energy trade shows and conferences
  • Develop beneficial industry relationships and strategic partners to gain a competitive advantage in the markets we pursue
  • Support the development of Market plans and materials to assist in lead generation and closed sales

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in the Municipal Electric and Cooperative Utilities market
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing a salesforce, 10+ years preferred
  • Successful track record of originating and closing Distributed Energy Resource (DER) deals (particularly Solar and Battery Storage)
  • Experience originating, pursuing, and contracting with Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), community solar, leasing arrangements, and/or similar contract structures
  • Experience in negotiating and closing solar and battery storage deals with landlords, developers, utilities, regulatory bodies, and off-takers
  • Thorough understanding of renewable energy incentives, regulatory structures, Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS), and Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong teamwork, leadership, and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
  • Self–starter, able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Able to build and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in New York is $139,600 – $209,400. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
