Its portfolio consists of a strategic mix of solar, solar plus battery, wind, and pumped storage hydro facilities. rPlus is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah and is backed by Gardner Group and Sandbrook Capital. rPlus is transitioning to an Independent Power Producer (IPP) model after successfully developing and selling high-quality projects. Our team is expanding, and we are seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to join us during this exciting phase of growth and transformation.

Reports to the Chief Financial Officer
Location:
Salt Lake City, Utah (Remote possible in Mountain or Pacific Time Zone, with frequent travel to Salt Lake City required)
Position Summary:
The Director of Accounting will be a key financial leader, responsible for overseeing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, tax compliance, and technical accounting matters for our organization, which includes solar, wind and battery storage projects, and will include multiple legal entities. This role requires a deep understanding of accounting in a complex, fast-paced environment, with specific experience in the energy sector preferred. The Director of Accounting will ensure accurate financial statements, support strategic initiatives, and maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements, including HSBR (High-Speed Business Reporting). This position will provide leadership and mentoring to a team of accounting professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    • Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
    • Manage the consolidation of financial results across multiple entities.
    • Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
    • Lead the preparation of financial reports for lenders and tax equity investors, ensuring compliance with financing agreements and investor covenants.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to provide analysis and insights that support business decisions.
  • Technical Accounting:
    • Lead the implementation and interpretation of new accounting standards and guidance.
    • Ensure the preparation and maintenance of supporting documentation and schedules for transactions within teh company’s system of record.
    • Address complex accounting issues related to revenue recognition, asset capitalization, and lease accounting, particularly as they apply to the renewable energy industry.
    • Provide guidance on accounting treatment for joint ventures, power purchase agreements (PPAs), and other industry-specific transactions.
  • Tax Compliance & Strategy:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
    • Work with external advisors and the development and construction teams to ensure compliance with IRA provisions related to tax credit qualification, specifically related to PWA adders, Energy Community, etc
    • Collaborate with external tax advisors to optimize tax strategy and assist in preparing tax returns in alignment with the companys business model and growth objectives.
    • Manage the preparation and review of tax filings, including income tax, property tax, and sales/use tax.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance:
    • Establish and maintain a robust system of internal controls across all entities to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations and company policies, including HSBR reporting requirements.
    • Coordinate with auditors and regulatory agencies to facilitate audits and ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to drive financial initiatives and support overall business objectives.
  • Strategic Support:
    • Partner with the CFO and senior leadership to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making.
    • Assist in budgeting and forecasting to align with the companys transition to an IPP model.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA required, MBA preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and technical accounting principles.
  • Experience with accounting for renewable energy, power generation, or related industries is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in financial reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls, especially for multi-entity organizations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Lead with an action-oriented approach and the ability to balance big picture strategic thinking with on the ground execution.
