Responsibilities Under the direction of the Senior Director of Operations/Engineering, the Energy Manager will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing comprehensive energy management strategies to optimize energy usage, reduce environmental impact, and enhance operational efficiency. The Energy Manager will be responsible for assessing energy consumption patterns, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing sustainable initiatives across the organization.

In compliance with all company policies, EEO & Fair Housing requirements, the Energy Manager is to maintain a high level of quality and efficiency on all aspects of energy usage at a diverse set of assets within the Related Luxury Residential portfolio.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough energy audits to assess current energy consumption patterns.
  • Analyze energy data to identify areas of improvement and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of energy consumption and costs for purposes of generating predictive and trackable goals across the portfolio.
  • Coordinate and manage external consultants in the development and implementation of strategies associated with NYC Local Law 97 and similar carbon reduction legislation in other markets including Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, West Palm Beach, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and future markets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate energy efficiency measures into overall business operations.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in energy management technologies, and offer detailed analysis on potential energy and cost savings opportunities in existing properties as well as new development projects.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Renewable Energy Integration:
  • Evaluate the feasibility and potential benefits of integrating renewable energy sources.
  • Develop and implement plans for the adoption of renewable energy technologies.
  • Monitor renewable energy systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Stay informed about energy-related regulations, standards, and compliance requirements.
    • Manage the organization’s compliance with all relevant energy and environmental regulations.
    • Provide guidance on obtaining and maintaining certifications related to energy efficiency.
  • Employee Training and Awareness:
    • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on energy conservation best practices.
    • Foster a culture of energy awareness and sustainability throughout the organization.
    • Collaborate with internal communication teams to promote energy-related initiatives.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Implement monitoring systems to track the effectiveness of energy management initiatives.
    • Prepare regular reports on energy consumption, cost savings, and environmental impact.
    • Present findings and recommendations to key stakeholders and senior leadership teams.

    Safety:

    • Act as safety ambassador and promote a strong safety culture throughout the region

    Compensation:

    $100,000 – $115,000 + Discretionary Bonus

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years of energy management experience, preferably within the luxury residential field, with a focus on strategic planning and implementation.
    • Previous experience in the implementation of energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy sources, and energy-related regulations.
    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex energy data.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong understanding of building systems, including but not limited to, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, BMS, fire & life safety, and elevator operations.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
    • Certified Energy Manager or similar
    • LEED Green Associate or similar certification

    Working Conditions:

    • Frequent travel to sites, primarily within the NYC metro area
    • Occasional air/rail travel to outer market properties
