The Solar Technician is responsible for scheduling, performing, and recording all required inspections for installed projects, per each jurisdiction. These inspections lead to successful sign-off and milestone completion, allowing an installation to become functional.
Core/Primary Job Responsibilities:

Assess the job site, identify and resolve any potential hazards

Create or interpret the solar panel installation plans, mapping out the steps of the installation and where all of the components will be installed.

Install, inspect, maintain and repair solar panel systems.

Do any electrical work needed to connect/repair full solar systems. This includes proper grounding systems, controls and all testing necessary.

Weatherproof the solar installation in accordance with local safety regulations and the specifications of the manufacturer.

Work closely with the Service Administrator to follow a provided schedule and calendar.

Perform, maintain and update service tickets.

Educate customers on system operation and maintenance.
Requirements, Education, Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

Previous PV design, PV installation or PV electrical experience (such as reading blueprints or plans, using tools and equipment, testing wiring or circuitry, National Electric Code knowledge, basic electrical theory knowledge, etc.) is helpful with a minimum of one year of field construction experience preferred

Must be 21 years of age, possess a valid drivers license and maintain a clean driving record with the ability to pass a driving background check

Adhere to company safety policies and procedures, including the ability to identify and report safety hazards, and the ability to encourage others to work safely

Must be a motivated teammate, looking to succeed and contribute to the shared goals with excellent organizational and time-management skills

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Essential physical requirements, included climbing, standing, stooping, bend, squat, stretch.

Physical effort/lifting up to 10 pounds; light – up to 20 pounds; medium – up to 50 pounds; heavy – over 50 pounds.

Ability to work in all weather and climates

Ability to work in confined spaces, such as attics

Must be able to work with heights; ascends/descends a ladder to rooftops.

While working conditions can vary depending on the specific position, this job will require you to be outdoors for extended periods of time. Solar installation and maintenance can only be done when the weather is good, expect long hours during these times in order to get as much work done as possible.

Remember that you may be required to work at heights necessary to get the work done and that you can meet the physical demand of working on a rooftop. Additionally, solar technicians will sometimes need to work in attics or crawl into tight spaces as they will need to hook up the solar panels to the electric grid.
