Overview:
This position is with our Research & Development team supporting projects in PA, RI and KY. Individual normally work under close supervision; participates in research and development activities. Utilizes established mathematical and scientific techniques to compile and analyze data. Writes technical reports detailing procedures, outcomes, and observations. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

The position can be location in PA, RI or KY. The position will be filled at the appropriate level based on the successful candidate’s education, experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities:

  • The Research and Development Department is responsible for working with Operations to identify, evaluate and analyze technology trends and developments that impact how the company provides electricity and gas, as well as technology developments that impact how customers utilize PPL, LG&E and KU, and RI Energy.
  • Participate in collaborative research projects in engineering, renewable energy, energy storage, energy management, and customer electrification.
  • Participate in engineering evaluations and feasibility studies on new and emerging technologies.
  • Communicate results of research projects through technical reports and presentations.
  • Collaborate with universities and research institutions engaged in activities of interest to PPL, LG&E and KU.
  • Supports staff engagement with the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
  • Performs other duties as directed by management.

Qualifications:

Education Requirements
Bachelors degree in Engineering is required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates must possess knowledge and ability to articulate science theory and application of emerging technologies, and the implications to the energy industry with emphasis on feasibility, operation and economics.
  • Candidates need functional experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products, modeling and database management software.
  • Strong technical writing, public speaking, communication and project management skills are essential.
