Title: Lab Technician (Solar Training Assistant)
Department(s): Workforce Development
Reports to: Craft Instructor
Under the direction of the Power52 Energy Institute, the Lab Technician will assist the Craft Instructor in delivering technical and educational instruction to trainees entering the renewable energy career field, with a focus on photovoltaic (PV) systems and solar energy applications. The Lab Technician will provide hands-on support during training cohorts, each lasting 16 weeks and serving approximately 20 adult trainees. The primary responsibility of the Lab Technician will be to assist in the adaptation and facilitation of Power52s PV Professional accredited curriculum, which is supported by The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). The Lab Technician will aid in the trainees’ academic development, helping them work toward the ultimate goal of acquiring industry-recognized North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Associate Credentials.
Job Summary:
The Assistant to the Craft Instructor will support the Craft Instructor in the delivery of our solar photovoltaic (PV) installation training programs. This role is crucial in ensuring our trainees receive the best possible education and hands on experience. The ideal candidate will have a passion for renewable energy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to assist in administrative and practical training aspects.
Key Responsibilities: (Include, but are not limited to)
- Assist the Craft Instructor in preparing and organizing instructional materials, tools, and equipment.
- Support the instructor during training sessions by helping trainees with hands on activities, answering questions, and providing guidance.
- Maintain and organize training facilities, ensuring that all equipment is in working order and available for use.
- Track trainee attendance, progress, and performance, providing feedback to the Craft Instructor as needed.
- Assist in the administration of assessments and certifications, including NCCER certifications.
- Coordinate with the Craft Instructor to ensure that all training activities align with NCCER standards and guidelines.
- Assist in developing and implementing safety protocols and ensuring that all trainees adhere to safety procedures during training.
- Provide administrative support, including scheduling training sessions, managing training records, and communicating with trainees.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of reports related to training outcomes and program effectiveness.
- Proctor module exams as needed, ensuring an ethical and fair testing environment.
- Maintains meaningful positive rapport with trainees, staff, program partners, and stakeholders of Power52 Foundation and Power52 Energy Institute.
- Encourages behavior that promotes character development and professional development.
- Develops activities which align with standards in the area of focus.
- Creates and maintains an effective environment for learning.
- As a highly visible representative of the school, you will communicate, support, and enforce school policies and procedures at all times, advising Trainees accordingly.
Physical Environment:
- The successful applicant may stand for long periods of time.
- Please be aware that stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required.
- Training will be completed online, in a classroom, or outside environment.
- You can expect moving mechanical parts/equipment; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and hosting labs with all outside weather conditions: wet, cold, and/or humid.
- You will sometimes be required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience at a minimum journey or technician level in the solar industry OR a minimum of three years experience as a certified teacher in a vocational/technical construction or maintenance-related training program.
- The instructor must have a desire to increase the knowledge and skills of residents in the course.
- Knowledge of solar PV systems and installation practices is highly desirable.
- NCCER certification or experience with NCCER training programs is a plus.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
- Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, as well as perform tasks requiring physical activity.
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and to address the varying needs of members in our program.
- Able to manage members individually and in groups.

Pay: $50,000.00 – $52,000.00 per year
