JOB SUMMARY

The CAD Drafter Intern is responsible for the development of complete and accurate 2D CAD models, drawings, and design documents for systems using AutoCAD and other Computer Aided Design software tools. The CAD Drafter Intern works under the close guidance of experienced CAD Drafters, Designers and Engineers to create proper construction documents for field use and to develop knowledge and skills. The CAD Drafter Intern is required to have knowledge of AutoCAD and it’s commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures.

 

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

  • Create and modify 2D and 3D CAD drawings and CAD models.
  • Create and modify assembly, erection, fabrication, detail, and other drawings; modify drawings based on mark-ups from Experienced CAD Drafters or Designers, Engineers, and Managers.
  • Maintain CAD files and drawings based on Standards and office procedures.
  • Read and comprehend design drawings and equipment data sheets.
  • Meet all safety, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Must have a basic understanding of Window’s Explorer and how to create, maintain and organize numerous folders and files.
  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Completed some CAD Drafting Classes or equivalent CAD experience required. 
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD based drafting systems required.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.
  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
  • Specific physical requirements include:
    • Sitting for approximately 90% of the time while working on a personal computer.
    • Occasionally lifting weight up to sixty (60) pounds or less.
    • Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders.
    • Occasionally bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights of less than fifty (50) pounds.
    • Walking of two (2) or more miles per day.
    • Working at heights, in confined spaces, and at temperatures from -20 to +100 degrees.
    • Standing for extended periods of time.
    • Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
