Job Description

Chief Technology Officer required for an innovative company focussed on advancing battery technology through the development of Zinc Ion battery cells.

Our client is developing unique rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries for back-up power, e-mobility, and energy storage applications and now seek to recruit an experienced person to lead their battery development and pilot manufacturing team. As an executive level scientist, you will be responsible for the development of new battery technologies, experiment / DOE planning, conducting research, and setting up pilot manufacturing for acidic zinc-ion batteries. You will lead the team to design, develop, and optimize new battery chemistries and contribute to new product development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop full cells and conduct testing and characterization.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of relevant research papers and provide theoretical insights on battery performance.
  • Generate innovative ideas to enhance battery performance and longevity.
  • Evaluate other technologies, such as the Navy’s 3D anode, and integrate findings into the development roadmap.
  • Prioritize and manage the product development schedule
  • Create schedules and Gantt charts to estimate development work leading to production manufacturing.
  • Investigate and set up Design of Experiments (DOE) and assist with grant applications.
  • Research and integrate relevant machine learning models (e.g., Schrodingers, AIonics, Google DeepMind Material Project).

Qualifications

  • Profound understanding of inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, or material science.
  • At least 5 years of industry experience in the theory and development aqueous Zinc batteries, with a preference for acidic pH environments.
  • Expertise in addressing inert/non-cycling compounds in the anode and cathode.
  • Knowledge of reducing Hydrogen Evolution Reaction (HER) and corrosion.
  • Proficiency in making, testing, and characterizing pouch cells.
  • Strong project management and team leadership skills.
  • Experience with pilot manufacturing development.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience working with start-ups or in a research and development environment is a plus.
