Job Description

Director of Development Engineering – Renewable Energy Projects

You Will:

  • Report directly to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
  • Serve as a player-coach, actively contributing to the design and engineering of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and cleantech projects, while managing third-party consulting engineers.
  • Oversee contracted engineering firms as the “Owner’s Engineer,” ensuring adherence to project specifications and standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the CTO to develop and maintain comprehensive technical requirements for design and commissioning.
  • Establish and enforce design and engineering equipment and construction standards.
  • Work collaboratively with development and finance teams to assess the feasibility and construction complexity of potential projects.
  • Partner with the contract management team to develop Scopes of Work (SOWs) for EPC contractors and provide engineering oversight during construction.
  • Travel as needed for work, approximately 20-25%, with variability based on project needs.

You Bring:

  • Over 10 years of energy system design experience, with at least 7 years focused on designing Commercial and Industrial (C&I) Rooftop Solar systems and small (1-10MW) ground-mount systems.
  • A creative and entrepreneurial mindset for solving energy and carbon use optimization challenges.
  • Preferred experience with energy efficiency, Combined Heat and Power (CHP), fuel cells, or other carbon reduction technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large portfolio of projects, effectively prioritize tasks, manage competing expectations, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Proficiency with PV design tools including Helioscope, PVSyst, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong skills with Procore, project management, energy modeling, and MS Office tools.
  • Exceptional analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required; a Master’s degree is preferred
