Orion Talent, the nation’s largest military recruiting firm, is currently recruiting transitioning or former military professionals for a Construction Manager position with a multi-discipline consulting engineering and construction management firm specializing in the design, construction, commissioning, and performance testing of power generation, energy resiliency, combined heat and power, renewable energy, and central heating and chilling facilities.

Position Details

Location: Can live anywhere with travel to work site locations.

Compensation: $125K – $165K depending on experience; per diem & Housing allowance when on job site.

Shift: Typically Mon – Fri, normal hours with occasional weekends flexible hours as needed.

Travel: Travel to work site locations. Projects typically 1-2 years in length. Approx one month of training at home office in Exeter, NH.

Position Description

As a Construction Manager, your primary job duties will be to execute a medium-to-large sized construction project or multiple small projects. You will primarily be assigned to the company’s project sites. Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide overall administrative and technical direction for medium-to-large size projects. May direct several small projects.
  • Prepare complete estimates for assigned project(s) of small to medium size and complexity either directly or through subordinate personnel.
  • Deliver complete written bid packages for multiple trades for assigned projects of small to medium size either directly or through subordinates.
  • Responsible for bid phase of all assigned projects resulting in complete, accurate subcontractor and vendor scope and costs.
  • Oversee total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives, A/E representatives, union officials, subcontractors, security, etc.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules for assigned projects—manage projects in support of the master schedule.
  • Plan, coordinate and/or supervise activities of all company personnel on assigned project(s).
  • Authorize/approve all project personnel transactions (hiring, transfers, wages, etc.), purchase requisitions, change requests, etc.
  • Ensure all company, client and project policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to. Interpret policies as required.
  • Provide direction to planning, scheduling, and engineering functions as required.
  • Ensure that the project safety program is maintained for a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Ensure both internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain high professional and construction ethics.
  • Communicate complex technical issues and make recommendations to Project Manager.
  • Thorough understanding of all federal, state, and local regulations as applicable to specific projects.
  • Thorough understanding of all company policies and procedures.
  • Provide supervision and technical support to all subordinates.
  • Maintain up to date current training requirements.
  • Knowledge of multiple trade construction means and methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction project contract delivery methods.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction and with minimal supervision.
  • Continually look for opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
  • Maintain all necessary licensing requirements.

Position Requirements

  • BS in Engineering discipline or Construction Management or equivalent combinations of training and related experience.
  • 10 – 15 years supervisory or equivalent experience in construction. 15 years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Experience working as a superintendent, construction project manager, or construction manager is required. Industrial construction and estimating experience is a plus.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Prompt and accurate judgment.
  • Solution oriented.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods).
  • Excellent communication, organization, supervisory, interpersonal, and planning skills.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations & recommend corrective measures.
  • Advanced knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.
  • High proficiency in use of job applicable software. Working Conditions/Physical Demands
  • The position will provide regular opportunities for overnight travel, and it may offer extended stay durations and/or long-term residency options.
  • Projects are typically industrial in nature and may require work inside power plants, food processing areas, manufacturing areas, outdoors, etc.
  • Some climbing, bending, and standing for long periods of time.
  • Some lifting up to 50 lbs.
