Role summary:

Based in Chattanooga, TN in the Anode Materials Division, the Design Engineer will report to the Senior Engineering Manager. The Design Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and commissioning specialized equipment needed for core manufacturing processes.

This position is fully onsite working at our Riverside facility in Chattanooga, TN. The working hours are Monday through Friday, day shift.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with the development and process engineering groups to plan and execute scaling of process equipment from a pilot/development scale to full production capability
  • Working closely with outside vendors to select, modify, or design from scratch specialized equipment to support the core processes of the division
  • Working with the project management team to help develop CapEx estimates, and to support the PM team with equipment specific information during construction of the various processes
  • Supporting the other engineering disciplines during process commissioning
  • Identifying, working with, and selecting vendors/contractors to deliver crucial process equipment and services
  • Generation of supporting data for process equipment design (P&IDs, FMEAs, structural load calcs, etc.)
  • Absorbing all process equipment information, and becoming the “go to” process equipment expert for the division
  • Mentoring engineering associates from a technical as well as career standpoint
  • Supporting of equipment cost/complexity reduction activities
  • Analyzing complex/difficult equipment engineering problems to identify and eliminate root cause

You are:

  • An experienced industry professional with an ABET accredited degree in mechanical engineering, or mechanical engineering technology
  • An experienced design engineer with a minimum of five (5) years equipment design experience
  • Experienced in designing mechanical processing and/or thermal processing equipment
  • Exceptional with a 3D design program, ideally SolidWorks
  • Proficient to Exceptional at Building Computational Models a la Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and/or Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Experienced with thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic analyses
  • Experienced calculating equipment design related engineering data (hardware selection, thermal derating, material selections, etc.)
  • Someone that operates well in ambiguity and with minimal supervision
  • Someone who can prioritize workstreams and competing demands
  • Comfortable communicating with a broad spectrum of associates, including operators, engineers, managers, contractors, and vendors
  • Someone who accepts and utilizes feedback for improvement
  • A critical thinker, always looking to improve the equipment, process, and operation
  • Proficient in oral and written communication
  • Passionate about creating and maintaining a great work culture
  • Willing to go the extra mile to get the job done and to satisfy customers/stakeholders

Extra awesome if you also have:

  • Experience leading equipment installation projects
  • Registration in TN as a P.E.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping such as 3D printing
  • Carbon, battery, or graphite manufacturing experience
  • Familiarity with Oracle
