Description

The Survey Field Technician works with the Land Surveyor and Crew Chief to perform field surveying and calculations in order to develop solar PV projects.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist Crew Chief with conducting field surveys for property boundaries, topography, GIS data collection, geodetic control, etc.
  • Provide construction staking for site layout, structures, grading, paving, roadways, drainage features, etc.
  • Locate boundary monuments and evidence of occupation.
  • Collect and process field data to produce topographic maps for civil design, perform boundary survey. Calculations in the field using Trimble data collection software.
  • Work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines as well as balance multiple projects.
  • Maintain a culture of continuous improvement and problem solving.

Work Environment

This position requires working primarily outdoors to perform field surveying tasks with occasional calculations/CAD work will be done in the office to support the field activities. The employee is expected to work in all terrain and weather conditions encountered in Maine.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl. The employee must also occasionally lift and move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and color vision. Must be able to drive a vehicle. Must have the ability to work in all weather conditions and stand or walk for long periods.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position and may require longer hours and frequent weekend work.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Our Ideal Candidate Has:

  • Self-motivation, able to work both independently and as a survey team member
  • Prior experience working on a survey crew or education in a surveying technology program
  • Proficient in operating Trimble survey equipment for collecting field survey data; prepare field notes in accordance with company and industry survey standards
  • Detail-oriented mindset and efficient in problem solving
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
