Non-Profit Senior Staff Accountant

Starting salary range: $70,000-$80,000

Salary, Full Time, Benefits Eligible, Remote

Candidates need to live in Residency within the NEEP region (in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic).

The Senior Accountant is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions, fulfilling financial reporting requirements, and managing financial data. A day in the life of this role

In this role, you will ensure financial systems and procedures are in place and implemented to support effective program implementation and clean audits.

General Accounting

  • You will support the Senior Director of Finance with overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • You will create and run reports in the general ledger accounting system or other accounting software as requested.
  • You will perform the day-to-day processing of financials in the general ledger accounting system. Ensure the accounting functions are completed timely and accurately.
  • You will Manage and reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly, including cash accounts.

Accounts Receivable & Accounts Payable

  • You will complete monthly/quarterly grant billings and remit them to external funders.
  • You will generate and disseminate invoices as requested for membership and subscriber fees and recognize revenue monthly
  • You will manage aging receivables to ensure payments are received in a timely manner.
  • You will oversee the accounts payable function to ensure appropriate coding and timely payments.
  • You will review credit card expense receipts and GL coding to ensure completion and accuracy.

Payroll

  • You will ensure staff complete and approve timesheets on a bi-weekly basis.
  • You will process payroll utilizing third-party software on a bi-weekly basis.
  • You will enter payroll journal entries into accounting software by allocating salaries and related expenses by department/project based on labor distribution reports.
  • You will serve as a point of contact for payroll-related questions and changes.

Finance Oversight

  • You will participate in all audit processes including year-end audits
  • You will determine accounting and reporting needs and implement process improvements.

What we need from you

  • 3-5 years of experience with non-profit financial, accounting, and project management work experience. An advanced degree may be used in lieu of some work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting-related fields. Comparable work experience may be in lieu of education requirements.
  • Facility with accounting software required, NetSuite experience preferred but not required with ability to train others.
  • Technical expertise in non-profit accounting practices and procedures.
  • Skill in working effectively within all levels of an organization, project managers, and auditors.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and operate with a minimum of direct supervision.
  • Experience in project management and project accounting.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Comfortable with technologies used for online collaboration, such as Slack, Zoom, Teams, etc.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Residency within the NEEP region (in the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic).
