About the Training Program: The award-winning training program at NCCETC offers several Workforce Development opportunities for professional development and the highest level of continuing education in renewable energy technologies. This includes the Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma Series, the Certificate in Renewable Energy Management, and various customized trainings.

Essential Job Duties
The Extension Specialist Training Coordinator would be responsible for the implementation, marketing, and management of a comprehensive range of clean energy training and education programs across the electric, building and transportation sectors.

Essential job duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Administering the current Renewable Energy Technologies Diploma Series, other established training programs, and customized trainings for organizations;
  • Developing (in coordination with the Transportation Program staff and Training Programs Manager) training programs and courses related to Sustainable Fleet Management and electric vehicle charging technologies;
  • Managing administration of grant-funded and custom training programs;
  • Selecting and ordering training aids including textbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, and reference works;
  • Coordinating the administrative staff functions necessary to deliver and document training programs, including program management and budgeting;
  • Working with NABCEP and other institutions on program and instructor accreditations and continuing education credits for training programs and the annual State Energy Conference in NC;
  • Evaluating effectiveness of training and development programs, and utilizing relevant evaluation data to revise instructional objectives and methods;
  • Working with external clients and other Center team leaders to analyze and assess training and development needs for individuals, departments, and/or external organizations;
  • Collaborating with the Training Programs Manager to develop training-focused grant funding applications to federal and state agencies as opportunities emerge;
  • Reviewing instructor performance and recommending improvements to program content and/or instructor presentation methods;
  • Evaluating and implementing opportunities to expand the training program to cover relevant clean energy topics. This may include among other things developing curricula, recruiting instructors, and identifying partners; and
  • Working with Communications staff to market the training program effectively.
Position may be hired as a Senior Extension Specialist dependent on candidate qualifications and experience
Other Responsibilities
  • Writing program newsletters and conveying identified opportunities to program alumni;
  • Posting relevant program information on social media platforms; and
  • Serving as a backup to the Building/Facilities Liaison to provide general support to Center staff.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree with at least 3 years of experience working within the sustainability/clean energy industry or continuing education field.
  • At least 6 months working directly with a training or workforce development program
Other Required Qualifications
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Workspace (Google Docs, Sheets) (or similar software);
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of implementation and facilitation of technical, operational, and/or specialty training events and programs;
  • Ability to assess training needs and objectives;
  • Ability to design, develop, implement, and evaluate responsive programs and initiatives including training plans, curricula, and methodology;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies and personalities in a diverse community;
  • Must be able to work independently, on multiple complex projects concurrently;
  • Must be able to serve as a co-PI on a grant or have a significant role on a non-grant initiative;
  • Must be able to directly (or through a direct report) supervise one or more interns; an
  • Ability to directly supervise one or more staff members or student workers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in a relevant field and at least one year of relevant professional experience;
  • Previous work in sustainability or the clean energy industry and/or academic work in these topic areas;
  • Experience working with Workforce Development Boards, community colleges, and/or professional development or continuing education licensing organizations
  • Knowledge of online learning platforms such as Moodle; an
  • Working knowledge of (or ability to learn to) software tools like Cvent and Hubspot
