Position Specific Description

We are seeking a Tax Professional to join the tax operation and regulatory team. This professional will have several key responsibilities including: (1) preparation and review of complex federal, state, and regulatory filings; (2) preparation and review of income tax provisions, tax basis balance sheet calculations and account reconciliations under ASC740; (3) proactively researching laws, regulations, administrative rulings and court cases and presenting proposals to lawfully minimize tax liabilities; (4) working closely with Information Management to continue to streamline processes related to tax return calculations. This position will help ensure that NextEra Energy, Inc. remains “Best in Class” with regard to the quality and efficiency of our income tax provision and compliance processes.

Tax Project Manager – Duties may include working with a Tax Manager/Tax Director to:

  • Prepare and Review Federal and State Corporate income tax returns
  • Prepare and Review regulatory filings
  • Prepare and review income tax provisions under ASC740 as well as the tax-related financial information and disclosures to be included in the applicable SEC filings (notably Forms 10-K and 10-Q)
  • Review and validate Deferred tax assets and liabilities
  • Analyze and quantify the primary drivers of the company’s effective tax rate
  • Partner with the Tax Forecasting team to identify and explain variances from forecast to actual
  • Partner with the Federal/State planning teams to ensure all M&A transactions are accurately recorded in the provision and reported on the income tax returns, when applicable
  • Conduct technical research and maintain compliance with IRS rules/regulations and rules under ASC740
  • Focus on tax planning and special projects (including system maintenance and/or development)
  • Research and draft responses to inquiries from government agencies regarding tax filings, compliance, and other claims
  • Leverage technology to create effective financial models, calculations supporting tax returns and provisions, dashboards and analytics
  • Identify and lead process improvements through use of technology and innovation
  • Mentor, lead, and manage one or more tax analysts

Preferred Tax Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Well-developed technical skills with an ability to identify and document both issues and proposed resolutions with minimal guidance
  • Hands on approach – to develop and mentor members of the tax department
  • Proven ability to coordinate the preparation and review of large consolidated and complex unitary tax returns with minimal supervision
  • Proficient oral and written business communication skills
  • Ability to perform analysis on data and utilize analysis to make tax technical and business decisions
  • Strong computer skills with a focus on both analytical and research tools including Corptax, OneSource Tax Provision, SAP, Business Warehouse, Advanced excel, Power Query / Alteryx or similar platforms
  • Proven ability to lead teams to improve quality, efficiency, predictability and/or transparency
  • Desire to seek new and challenging tasks – self-starter mentality

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience: 6+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s – Accounting / Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
