Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking a professional to join the Power Generation Division Engineering & Operations Support Services organization as part of the wind renewable energy fleet team. The ideal candidate is capable, organized, results oriented, process focused and who can build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Job Overview And Expectations

  • Position responsibilities include dispositioning failing components, executing root cause analysis, and evaluating upgrades for wind turbine mechanical systems and equipment. Specific areas of focus will include wind turbine drive-train system, yaw system, pitch system, and hydraulic system.
  • Candidate will be required to demonstrate a high degree of creativity in problem solving, sound judgment in planning, organization and execution of assigned work.
  • Candidate will be required to troubleshoot wind turbine mechanical systems, champions the quality process, design specialty tooling, and perform cost justifications.
  • Candidate will be required to complete engineering studies, engineering reports, engineering calculations, engineering drawing/specifications, support contractor bid packages, cost/schedule estimates. Duties will also include other associated activities as assigned.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To

  • Apply standard processes/procedures to achieve objectives and goals
  • Apply sound engineering principles to a broad variety of assignments
  • Use advanced methods and techniques that may require extension/adaption of theories, precepts, practices and/or criteria
  • Collaborate within and across business units
  • Travel to wind sites as often as 5-10 days per month
  • Respond as needed during off-hours as power generation business operates ‘around the clock’

    Qualifications

    • 5+ Years of Relevant Engineering Work (design, project, test, etc.)
    • Demonstrated History of Professional Work
    • Travel to wind sites as often as 5-10 days per month
    • Physically Capable of Climbing a Wind Turbine and Executing Field Work

    Desired Qualifications

    • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering
    • Gear, Bearing, Bolted Joint Design, Application and/or Maintenance Experience
    • Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering
    • Licensed Professional Engineer
    • Experience in project management and/or personnel supervision
    • Experience with AutoCAD or Solid Works
    • Experience with Maximo or similar enterprise asset management system
    • Six Sigma certification
