Description

THE POSITION:

Reporting to the Lead Facilities Coordinator, the Facilities Technician assists with the maintenance of New Hampshire Electric Cooperatives many facility locations, substations, and broadband sites. The FT oversees the buildings, building systems, and grounds to ensure a safe, secure, healthy, and efficient workplace. The facilities technician will perform maintenance and repairs for all the buildings and grounds to reflect NHECs image, values, vision and to portray NHECs image and value to its members and the community.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Provides safe, healthy, and efficient work environment through appropriate and dependable operation and maintenance of NHEC buildings structures and systems including but not limited to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life-safety devices, alarm system, access control, and traffic control.
  • Enhances security and safety of the workplace by performing or overseeing the performance of routine testing and maintenance of facility security, fire alarm and sprinkler system, UPS systems, underground storage tanks and monitoring wells, and emergency stand-by generating systems. Responds to vendor and internal notification of security/safety alarms.
  • Performs routine, minor maintenance and repair of building lighting and plumbing fixtures and systems. Ability to troubleshoot and repair building furnishings, equipment, doors, and windows is necessary. Obtains and oversees vendor-provided maintenance and repair where necessary.
  • Communicates, coordinates, and cooperates with NHEC Safety Department and personnel on facility safety issues and concerns. Repairs or facilitates vendor repairs of identified facility safety repairs/improvements.
  • Coordinates and oversees NHECs solid waste disposal processes including the proper disposal of electronic wastes, batteries, utility poles and other controlled and hazardous wastes pursuant to NHECs Universal Waste procedure.
  • Improves corporate safety performance by maintaining a safe and clean working environment, participating in department safety meetings, adhering to Employee Safety Rules and Procedures, recognizing at-risk behaviors and conditions, and taking corrective actions or communicating with NHECs Safety Department.
  • Processes requisitions for routine facilities operation and maintenance functions including snow plowing, lawn maintenance, trash/recycling removal, ordering heating fuels, etc.
  • Enhances function and appearance of facilities by performing minor repairs, painting, furniture procurement, designing office space as needs change, and the like.

THE PERSON:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Advanced courses in building operation and energy efficiencies, as well as accounting and business are helpful.
  • A valid New Hampshire drivers license is required. CDL B is helpful.
  • 5 years experience in facilities maintenance, or related fields is required.
  • Continuing education is required to remain updated on local, state and federal building codes.
  • Must be self-motivated, organized, and productive. Must be able to inspect facilities and identify health and safety problems.
  • Must be able to organize, schedule, and perform maintenance activities to ensure that facilities meet NHEC standards.
  • Must be able to diagnose building, furniture, and equipment problems and make repairs or contract the work out.
  • Must be able to maintain records of requisitions and coordinate the related maintenance and check for quality control.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to assemble and move office furniture and equipment as required.
  • Must be able to use a personal computer for e-mail and record keeping.
  • Must become familiar and adept at our IVUE software in respect to accounting, purchase order creation, and invoice authorization.
  • In-depth knowledge in building construction, roof systems, electrical distribution, building maintenance, purchasing, and contracting. Knowledge in the use of general office equipment is required.
  • Assisting all levels of management, in all departments, to meet the goals of the Members and employees of NHEC.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NEC, and building codes is helpful.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able and willing to workday shift, some evenings, and weekends as needed. Must be able and willing to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and be able to work from ladders, lifts, and staging. Occasional lifting of 75100 pounds may be required. Must be able to work with common cleaning products.

Must be willing to be on-call to respond to emergencies and alarm conditions.

The following activities may be required occasionally: Light pick-up and delivery; snow removal; lawn & yard maintenance; changing light bulbs & fixtures; painting; other duties as deemed necessary.

Assistance with power restoration efforts is required of all employees. It may be required during regular business hours that employees will be assigned functions to support power restoration and for some employees that may be different from their normal duties. In addition, such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays which may involve considerable extra hours. To meet this working condition, all employees are required to provide a personal phone number where they may be reached after hours. This number will only be used for internal purposes.

COMPENSATION:

NHEC views compensation in a holistic and transparent manner. The salary range for this role is targeted at $53,000 $63,000.
