Job Description
The Laboratory Protection Training Lead will be responsible for all Lab Protection (LP) training needs, including the Protective Force. This position will develop and implement a standardized new hire and ongoing training program to ensure readiness for specific roles and responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the Protection Program Annual Training Plan.
  • Develop the PFO 30/60/90-day adaptive new hire training plan covering patrol, access control, emergency response, and dispatch (ECS).
  • Evaluate the successful completion of all levels of training to ensure individual meets criteria outlined for passing each respective level of training.
  • Schedule, conduct, or delegate department-specific training and ensure accurate records and documentation of all completed training.
  • Collaborate with facility management points-of-contact (POCs) to create a building and lab awareness employee indoctrination training program for all LP personnel and security contract staff that are required to respond in the event of an incident or emergency response in these facilities.
  • Promote and model ethical and professional interpersonal and business behaviors.
  • Upon hire, the successful candidate will be required to attend and successfully complete the Basic Instructor training at the DOE National Training Center at Sandia National Lab.

Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Associate’s Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Extensive knowledge in specialized focused business support functions. A comprehensive understanding of both general and specific aspects of business support activities, and their practical application to a wide variety of problems and situations specific to the discipline or field supported. Advanced skills in applicable software packages and office equipment. Considerable project administration and business services skills. Broad knowledge of specific principles, procedures, and practices related to supported fields and disciplines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, team and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven experience developing and executing training plans.
  • Strong working knowledge of effective security and safety practices.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Ability to effectively train and evaluate personnel with diverse skills, learning styles, work styles and values.
  • Ability to use a variety of workplace technology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication, problem-solving and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to make appropriate decisions regarding day-to-day work activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Availability to work across all scheduled shifts, when required.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Specialist IV / Annual Salary Range: $73,200 – $120,800

NREL takes into consideration a candidates education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employees salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
