Job Description
This Group Manager (GM) position will lead the Mobility Infrastructure and Impacts Analysis group within NRELs Center for Integrated Mobility Systems (CIMS), which focuses on analysis and analysis methods that improve our understanding of transportation infrastructure with a strong emphasis on hydrogen production, distribution, and usage and transportation related supply chain questions. Collaborate with other NREL centers as well as other National Labs and external partners to understand the technical and economic impact of mobility infrastructure on other parts of the energy system (e.g., electrical grid) and economy (e.g., jobs, environment, infrastructure, etc.).
The GM will lead a group of transportation researchers, project leaders, postdoctoral researchers, and/or student interns and support them from both a professional and technical perspective. Candidates must have a robust understanding of transportation infrastructure and have experience in the execution of projects that advance the science and/or implementation of advanced technologies in those systems. A portfolio of high-quality research, proposals, business development, client management, and/or project management is required.
The Mobility Infrastructure and Impacts Analysis group supports NRELs research mission in the areas of transportation and mobility decarbonization, efficiency, resilience, equity, and economics. Analysis from this team supports understanding and improving the viability of alternative energy mobility solutions and the infrastructure that supports it. This group works in conjunction with key government and industry partners.
The GM will create a culture of inclusion, safety, and quality. Within this context, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead group business development strategy, develop new group capabilities, hire resources as needed, lead personnel and guide/engage group staff. The successful candidate will work closely with the CIMS leadership as well as the leadership across NREL to create strategic vision for the group and the Lab.
The GM will work closely with NRELs Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technologies, Vehicle Technologies and Strategic Analysis program team, strategic external partners, and NRELs research operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for approving and ensuring the safe execution of laboratory research, at small and large-scales and effectively collaborate across the organization.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors Degree and 9-years experience in technically related research discipline; Or, Masters Degree and 7-years experience in technically related research discipline; Or, PhD and 4-years experience in technically related research discipline. Previous management and budget adherence experience and/or significant leadership in an individual required.

Additional Required Qualifications
Experience with clean-energy vehicle and fuel technologies, policies and their integration with the broader energy system and clean-energy transition.
Proven application of scientific technical expertise of engineering research within these technology areas as well as key relationships with strategic industry, government, and academic leaders in these technology areas.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with DOEs Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technologies Office, Vehicle Technologies Office, Strategic Analysis, or other key CIMS clients.
  • Strong record of publications/presentations in relevant research areas.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)

Job Profile: Group Manager II / Annual Salary Range: $114,500 – $206,100

NREL takes into consideration a candidates education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. In compliance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, a potential new employees salary history will not be used in compensation decisions.
