  • Troubleshoot product problems and concerns, through failure analysis and research, applying engineering principles
  • Support the operation, maintenance, and repair of engines to ensure that the correct parts, engines and equipment are installed and functioning according to MTU specifications
  • Support field inspections of failed parts to identify primary cause and reduce future incidents. Check component parts to assure conformance or non-conformance with specifications
  • Provide technical assistance and feedback to MTU designers and engineers on customer problems and needs. Including the design and implementation of experimental hardware
  • Confer with engineers and other personnel to write and update service manuals, bulletins, and technical service information, based on field investigations
  • Support the operation, maintenance, and repair of engines to ensure that the correct parts, engines and equipment are installed and functioning according to MTU specifications
  • Participate in the design of service tools for new and existing products
  • Assist in training field personnel, staff, OEMs and dealers on product and troubleshooting methods to increase service and support capabilities and provide technical assistance to resolve power train concerns
  • Assist in diagnosing electronic engine control systems and troubleshoot these systems as they are applied in different applications
  • Research customer design proposals, specifications, and other data to evaluate the feasibility maintenance requirements of designs or applications
  • Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation and performance of engines, component applications and systems.
  • Operate instrumentation and record test data
  • Assist with new product launches
  • Maintain detailed records of daily activities
  • Keep company property clean, organized and operational

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology or 4 years of failure analysis or service engineering of internal combustion engines
  • Good knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of internal combustion engines
  • Good ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
  • Good analytical and creative problem-solving skills, when problems are complex
  • Good organizational, planning and follow up skills
  • Good oral/written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50%, sometimes on short notice – domestic and international
  • Proficient with PC and MS Office Suite.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of MTU products, policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of physical properties of fuels, coolants and lubricating oils
  • Knowledge of engines and tools, including their designs, controls, uses, repair, and maintenance, including major engine overhaul and the tune-up of diesel engines and components

Work Environment:

Work Conditions:

Daily work is performed in an office and outside field service environment. This position has a traditional work schedule (Monday – Friday) and sometimes may have a non-traditional schedule including weekends and evenings.

While performing duties of this position, employee will visit the customers site and may be required to work inside or outside of the facility. While working outside, employees will occasionally endure hot, cold, and humid temperature conditions. The employee is also occasionally required to work in environmental conditions where there are fumes, odors, gases, and dust. Please note, the conditions can be hazardous.

While performing duties of this position, the employee is regularly requested to sit, stand, bend, stoop, walk, lift and regularly requested to activate a keyboard or mouse within the work environment.

Please note, while the primary work environment is in an office/workshop environment with periodic visits to customer sites, the employee is responsible for wearing hearing and other personal protective equipment as needed.

Specific vision requirements for this position include having the ability to adjust focus and see in color.
