Wage Range: $90,000 to $120,000 + annual bonus incentive

Job Summary

MTech Mechanical is a leading mechanical design / build contractor in Colorado, and most projects are negotiated in a design build/assist arrangement. Projects are very technical, and include labs, cleanrooms, office buildings, process systems, and data centers. We are seeking a Development Energy Engineer with an operations focus on energy in commercial, multi-family, and industrial buildings to help clients develop strategies to meet Energize Denver and State of Colorado energy, GHG and resiliency goals. The development energy engineer position centers on the assessment of utility bills, helioscopes, and the associated energy impacts in existing and new buildings related to lighting, HVAC and plumbing systems and provides retrofit and upgrade solutions for our customers to meet their energy and utility reduction goals. This candidate will be a technical leader within MTech and will support the growth of a business unit focused on energy reduction and sustainability goals.

Essential Job Function

  • Leading the development of community- and portfolio-level energy strategies, considering, among other things: energy conservation, building electrification, onsite energy generation and storage, district energy, microgrids, infrastructure resilience, and monitoring and control systems.
  • Technical assessments of building/campus energy demands and potential supply strategies using a combination of modeling, proprietary software, and the development of customized analysis tools.
  • Assisting in preparing and presenting results and recommendations, in report or presentation format, to clients and design teams.
  • Utility bill analysis and recommendations based on industry standards for natural gas, electricity and water.
  • Prepare ASHRAE Level II audit findings with an energy audit report for technical viability of proposed energy conservation measures and energy saving capital projects to generate the anticipated energy and process improvements; assessments include review of baseline conditions/calculations, ECM savings calculations, and ECM scopes, M&V approach/plans, capital cost estimates, operating parameters, engineering drawings and project submittals.
  • Solicit Lighting audits with our partners to find potential savings and recommendations for replacement or retrofit.
  • Lead the efforts with renewable and BESS storage partners to create, finance and implement solutions with the associated utility tariffs and grant opportunities.
  • Assist the Preconstruction team with project pursuits, in the form of energy assessments, conceptual designs, one-lines, preliminary system selections and high-level energy analysis, code reviews, and support and attendance at project interviews (as required).
  • Coordination with other trade partners including architects, general contractors, and other design disciplines; and ability to work collaboratively and present solutions.
  • Evaluate design parameters and system solutions for projects that respond to both the energy and budget requirements of the project.
  • Prepare HVAC load calculations and energy analysis; mechanical system sizing and equipment selections and develop a working knowledge of codes and reference standards.
  • Establish and manage engineering design budgets with Project Managers and Pre-Construction teams in house and with partners
  • Works with other departments within MTech to provide technical expertise in a support role.
  • Acts as a technical leader for energy code changes and jurisdiction requirements including Energize Denver and throughout Colorado.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected in order to meet the requirements of this position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural or Mechanical Engineering required, from an accredited college or university.
  • Certified Energy Manager – required or ability to obtain
  • Demonstrated proficiency as an Energy Engineer
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of engineering experience required with skills in energy design / build projects.
  • Strong proficiency in Windows operating environment, including email and Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at different levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment or independently, flexibility to adapt to changing needs/situations.
